Buying Youth Wrestling Shoes

August 30th, 2010 by author

Many children go through phases where they take up new arts, hobbies and interests only to lose interest within a few days or weeks. Some of these pursuits can be quite costly for parents and many will refuse to invest in their child’s latest activity if they have a history of jumping from one new leisure pursuit to the next. The vast majority of Mums & Dads are quite happy to part with a few pounds for educational pursuits of the studious kind, but when it comes to sporting or musical activities they are more reluctant to supply the funding because of the cost.

However, if little Johnny says he wants to take up a sport (or art as some would call it), such as wresting, then it could be dangerous for his health and safety if the folks at home pay for cheap substandard Youth Wrestling Shoes. The same goes for other bony sports or activities that have an element of danger attached. Incorrect fitting, or below par protective gear can and does, have major safety implications.

The bottom line is this: Because a lot of kids get bored with their latest hobby, it means there is a lot of second had gear for sale in the classified. That’s stuff that is almost as good as new, but at a fraction of the cost. So all you folks back home, try not to think of the new price associated with a new pursuit, and hop online to see what’s going in the local ads. The internet is awash with folks selling everything but their own grandmother.

Writing a Novel in 6 Months or Less

June 22nd, 2010 by author

Can a writer really crank out an entire 400 page novel in six months or less? Many books have been written and even more blogs and online articles describing methods to writing a novel in a certain improbably short time period. Most of these have a 90 day rule, but some are audacious enough to promise a complete novel in 90 days if you follow their sage advice. Realistically, however, you need time to develop your material and that does not happen overnight. Even if you wanted to follow a 30 or 60 day time period, it is unrealistic to believe that no other matter in your life would take precedence and work to derail you from your goal.

Having a goal like writing a novel in a pre-determined period of time is a good concept, a grand idea, but the whole point is not following some formulaic progress chart but to start and finish a great novel, one that you can be proud to call your own. The biggest problem with writing a novel is getting started. Few things in life can be quite as daunting as the blank page itself. Even if you have the greatest idea in the history of the written word you might still find yourself staring at the white sheet of paper, wondering for the hundredth time how you are going to write the first sentence.

My suggestion for getting started is to write a sentence, any sentence will do. For example, if your book is about a Mr. Cleary and you know from your “big idea” that Mr. Cleary is married and has four kids and lives in Liverpool, then your first sentence could be “Mr. Cleary lived with his four children and matronly spouse Elizabeth in a two room flat in the industrialized section of Liverpool known as Belly Row.” I just made that up, I am sure that there is no “Belly Row”. But you get the picture. Now you can take off running and of course, you can go back later on and change the sentence and do whatever you like, but at least you have started writing a novel and now you just need to continue.

The most important aspect I believe of writing a novel is to establish rich characters with complex and believable back stories. Before you begin writing the novel itself you should first build your characters and that means writing character studies. Each character study should be at least ten pages long, and should contain rich details of the person. What do they wear, eat, and drink? How do they part their hair? What are their loves, likes, and dislikes? What profession are they in? Where did they study? How did they grow up? What were their parents and siblings like? What events shaped their upbringing and made them into the persons that they are today? Are they moody or happy-go-lucky? Are they responsible or do they travel through life without a care in the world? How do they impact the people around them? How do other people perceive your characters?

These are all questions that you need to answer before placing the character on the page. These character studies should be done quickly and concisely without worrying too much about crafting great sentences. The most important thing is that the person should begin to take substance. When you finally place the character into your book you will recall the character studies that you did for them and then their actions and reactions will be more authentic and believable in the final novel.

Fine Arts & Drama

May 23rd, 2010 by author

In western culture, fine art has consistently referred to the art of architecture, sculpture, music, and, in some views, poetry too. Some definitions include drama, and literature (such as the short story or the novel) as members of the fine arts, but others demand that these have no rightful place among the fine arts. They may be included among the “humanities”, but certainly not among the fine arts. Is this correct?

If we just consider those arts that all can agree are “fine art”, we will see that each of them, perhaps with the exception of architecture, is produced to express feelings. We can clearly see in ancient Greek sculptures, for instance, the feelings these golden people had for the human body, for its measured, objective beauty. Feelings are certainly explicit in works of poetry, which, like sculpture, interweave both feelings and images to express the attitude of the artist, and ultimately, the culture of the artist, towards his or her world and all that is found in it. Music, most can agree, is fundamentally about feelings, but less about image as we find them in sculpture and poetry. This deficiency in the fine art of music in fact allows us to more precisely define the fine arts as something which is used to express feelings, and allows us to drop the notion that the fine arts must intermix feelings with images.

Now that the fine arts are confined to the expression of feelings, the fine art of architecture can be re-admitted to the fine arts. Unlike all the other arts, architecture is polluted with a purpose other than that of expression. It has, of its essence, a practical utility and that utility is necessary if it is to be considered architecture at all. No less can be said of a Grecian vase, which has a purpose, and yet stands as well, in its shape and delicacy, as an expression of human feeling. Considered without purpose, the vase becomes a sculpture. The same can be said of architecture. Considered apart from its purpose, the building can be appreciated for what it expresses of the human spirit. To the degree that a building does express anything, to that degree we may consider it a production of fine art. It is undeniable that there are emotive differences evoked by a Greek or Roman temple and a Gothic cathedral, between a modern skyscraper and a Renaissance palace. Being image shaped by feeling, as poetry and sculpture, architecture does indeed have a place among the fine arts.

Now, returning to the place of drama and literature, the short story and the novel, in the fine arts, if we apply the essential agreement we have found among all the other fine arts to these activities and products, we must conclude that drama, the short story, and the novel do indeed satisfy the requirement that the fine arts express feeling. Drama, even the cinema, combines image, sound, and feeling to ultimately express a spirit’s feelings about its subject. The short story and the novel, non-poetic, but prose, nevertheless does the same. Nor can we say that measure, proportion, balance, objective, mathematical or geometrical distinctions exist between the short story, for instance, and poetry, such that the short story lacks what poetry, music, architecture and sculpture all contain. There are certainly these requirements in any short story or novel composition.

The short story, the drama the novel, just as painting, music, sculpture, and architecture, are arts. It becomes clear that if we will not include them among the “fine arts”, these not lacking in anything the other fine arts possess, that we are being merely arbitrary. Either each is a fine art, or each is art. Perhaps we need to do is drop the “fine” and settle that all of these arts are indeed, art. The fine point has been drawn!

Key Tips On Writing Non-Fiction Books

April 27th, 2010 by author

First time or new authors who have not written a lot usually seek out tips on writing a book to help make their transition towards becoming a full time author a bit smoother. For non-fiction books, here are 2 tips that most authors should take to heart:

One is to try to entertain as you write. Even though people are reading you for information, they are reading you for entertainment as well. Hardly anyone reads an interesting topic presented in a boring way. And yet, millions of people will read uninteresting topics presented in interesting ways. As you write, think of ways that you can present your topic in an entertaining manner.

The second tip is to make plenty of use of case studies. Especially when writing an instructional book. Case studies add a human face on the things that you are writing about. They help to make the topic more interesting and alive and make it real for the person reading it.

This about an article: First things first, it is important to think about what makes you feel at peace. The color blue is nearly universally associated with calming properties, but if green makes you feel serene, or if pink puts pep in your step, run with it. Use colors that will strip your stress away simply by being around them. The next sense to analyze is that of scent. Bathroom interior design requires you to design not only the image of a room, but the overall feel. Does lavender put you at ease? Writing a Book

February 26th, 2010 by author

Many people dream of writing a book. For some reason, there’s a very romantic image of authors in our culture. The common image might be that of a man sitting in a mansion, dressed in a robe, possibly with a cigar or cigarette in his mouth and a glass of liquor nearby. The life of an author is generally seen as one of a life of leisure.

The truth, however, is drastically different. Most authors can only dream of living in a mansion. And most have to work at other jobs to support themselves. The vast majority of books never make money. And most authors will never receive the monies or notice that they desire. For many people that write for a living, the writing turns out to be more of a hobby than an actual profession.

Getting The Skills To Write Fiction

February 24th, 2010 by author

If you want to write fiction well, you have to start to notice the people around you, wherever they are. Watch them at the train station, bus stop, stadiums.

Notice what they’re wearing, their speech patterns, their mannerisms, and so forth. Television is not a good place to observe people because the cameras rarely remain on a person long enough to be useful. Become practiced at observing people and their behavior and your novel characters will start to come alive.

Writing a fiction book is basically convincing a pool of readers that characters who never existed, actually do exist, and that events that never happened, could have very plausibly happened. To do this, you have to make the people seem real. Their situations have to seem real. The only way that you can write like this is to take note of how people in the real world actually talk and the things that are important to them.

Bridal Jewelry

February 13th, 2010 by author

Bridal Equipment

The average bride will select a bridal jewelry set to put on with her wedding ceremony gown. However, it is essential that the bride refrain from selecting bridal gold prior to she has selected her wedding ceremony dress. Hence, bridal equipment are supposed to enhance the dress–not the other way about. This important factor follows the age-old question–What arrives first, the chicken or the egg?

Some thing Borrowed

Inheriting a family treasure from mom, grandmother, and even great-grandmother is really a type gesture–especially when it can be worn for the bride’s wedding ceremony day. Even though wearing a loved ones heirloom for bridal jewelry is sentimental, it might not be a useful option. As mentioned earlier, the purpose of accessories is to improve the overall look from the wedding dress. If grandmother’s antique pearls conflicts with the type from the wedding gown, it could be greatest not to wear the heirloom. In this situation, it may be a great idea to agree to put on the borrowed gold to the engagement party, rehearsal dinner, or on the honeymoon.

Something Older

This could easily apply to something that you simply received from your mother, grandmother, etc.. but it can also be something that brings back again pleasant early memories. How long did you understand your future husband? Maybe your bridal jewelry is really a reflection from the very first present he gave you (visit to a fabulous beach). How about seashore themed jewelry for you personally and your bridesmaids.

Some thing New

Even should you choose to create an heirloom since the middle of the bridal gold, complement it with some from the elegance of modern Swarovski crystal equipment or the most up-to-date styles in pearls. If you’re having a beach theme for your wedding, don’t forget about dressing up your feet with some classy beaded foot jewelry.

Bridal gold is really a substantial element in preparing for marriage. As a symbol of everlasting adore and an enhancement for that bride’s wedding ceremony attire, it is essential to prevent common errors that many brides have made in the past. When it arrives to selecting the ideal bridal gold, the bride should choose wisely!

Art Nouveau

February 2nd, 2010 by author

Art Nouveau embraced the modern use of technology on materials such as stained glass and wrought iron, which were used extensively in sculpture and functional items. A classic tradition was observed too in the use of motifs from the natural world, such as flowers or insects. Furniture, jewelry, lighting, textiles and posters were all part of the style.

Antoni Gaudi is probably the most famous architect of the movement, still celebrated today for his eccentric buildings in Barcelona. He took the style to new heights, never making a straight line where a wavy one could do the job.

Many guitar instructors are limited to a certain style. With the better online courses the styles and musical genres are practically unlimited. There is no boredom factor involved either. Many students quit guitar lessons if their teacher doesn’t know the songs, artists or type of music they like. The top courses cover all the bases. If you don’t like certain musical styles, don’t play them and go on to something else more interesting.

The Advantages Of A Mobile Photography Studio

January 9th, 2010 by author

Have you ever gone into a pet store and seen a display about a pet photographer coming to the store?
And what photographers do these stores pick on these busy days? They pick photographers with a mobile photography studio. Although some chain stores, like Sears, might have their own in-house photographers, for the most part, if you contact a store to set up a portrait day, you’re going to get some action (provided you have good references and a great portfolio, that is.)

Think about the most memorable photograph you have ever seen – whether in the newspaper, in a book or in photography gallery. What was is that was so special? For a lot of people, great photographs tell entire stories or reveal entire lives in one image. Although these pictures can be taken by accident, often they are taken through the eyes of someone with a story to tell. Thinking About Taking Painting Lessons? – Tips for New Starters

December 2nd, 2009 by author

So you are just about to begin your journey into the wonderful world of art and are thinking about taking a painting course? Like most new skills, it can be a little daunting at the beginning knowing where and how to start, especially if you don’t have someone to help guide you through the initial stages]. This article will hopefully help you with a few tips and ideas to get you going.

Organizing Your Painting Studio
When you first begin to learn to paint, you will probably not have the use of a professional art studio, however you should try and create a productive environment around you where you can concentrate on the job in hand and relax! Most importantly, try and find a space in your home that is free from noise and distraction. That’s not always easy I know! At least set up your art studio where you will not be constantly disturbed.

Lighting

Where possible, find a room in your home that has some space and plenty of natural light. A Conservatory is a great place to start, or a room that has lots of large windows. If you can’t find any natural sunlight, you will have to use artificial light. There are special bulbs called “Full Spectrum”, that are made to emulate natural light. They do a adequate in providing the correct lighting, but nothing compares to natural sunlight.

Painting Brushes

As with paint colors, selecting your painting brush is purely a matter of personal choice. I have experimented over the years with numerous different brush types and mainly opt to use flats and filberts of various sizes. My paint brush selection mainly consists of No.2, No.5, and No.10 Filberts and No2, No5, and No10 Flats, which are all made from hog hair, which is extremly strong, flexible and great to use with oil paints.

Paint Palette
You will see every artist using one of these if you are not familiar with the term! The artists palette is basically the surface that you will use to layout and mix all your colours on. There are a variety of different palettes available. They can be made from plastic, glass or wood and come in a variety of sizes. I usually use a palette made from wood, however you will need to seal it first as the wood is porous. This is extremely easy to do. All you need is some mineral oil or linseed oil and then wipe the surface of your palette to coat the surface. Remove any excess oil and you’re ready to go!

You can find more information on painting courses for new artists here.

One Way To Help You Stay Focused

October 7th, 2009 by author

You probably have come across bookshops and shopping centers selling these plastic laminated pictures. And some will have word or words spanning across the pictures of sceneries or background sceneries that depict some meaning that captures the thought and impression. Each of these may cost you a bit depending on the size of the poster you need.

Why not make one for yourself? One way to help you stay focused or you need reminders is through printing out a word art poster or picture. After that, laminate it or place it into a plastic folder and hang it up in front of your work desk or hang in up on your office wall or toilet wall. This will save you a lot and at the same time come in useful to remind you to stay focus in whatever situation you may be in.

You may be stressed or you may be in a cross road that needs some advice. Get yourself or make yourself a poster. Reflect and recall those times when certain word of encouragement lifted you up or may be spiritual words from the Bible or scripture kept you back on track. Make those words available once more through a quick print or quick coloring on your drawing block.

Exploring Writing

September 5th, 2009 by author

Learning how to write, and to write well, may come naturally to some and may prove harder for others. Even seasoned writers regularly devote their time to reading books by other authors they admire, and consistently work at honing their craft. For writing is a skill like any other, and requires the same care, dedication and adherence to certain rules like any other art form.

People who are learning how to write have many reasons for doing so. There are numerous instances in which writing is necessary and important, such as writing academic papers or drafting a concept paper in a job. Others may wish to be better at penning a letter or writing about their travels to friends. Some kinds of writing are more specific and warrant a certain adeptness of style and form. For example, writing novels, short stories, poetry or journalistic pieces.

All kinds of writing can be learned, and the quality of writing is normally directly proportionate with how much time and effort is put into the piece. Revising and editing are crucial, as is having a clear structure and main thesis of your piece. For a news story, having an angle and a ‘hook’ to your article is critical; for novel fiction writing, having a strong story with vivid characters and an engaging conflict will attract readers; for poetry, the ability to draw up lyrical, universal emotions in a sparse and sensitive style are important. In every instance, successful authors have rarely picked up a pen for the first time, but have gone through the arduous process of learning how to write.

If one is casually looking to improve upon their writing skills, my suggestion is that they devote more time to reading. Reading books that are well written and interesting will increase your vocabulary and give you good examples of writing. Try to avoid the ‘airport trash’ books and look to more respected authors in the genre you are interested in. This is not to say that you should model your style on another author, but their attention to detail and their flare for storytelling may help in learning how to write better.
