Garmin Introduces New nuvi 1490T

May 25th, 2009 by netguy

Garmin has just launched a large nuvi 1490T that measures 5 inches diagonally. Although large it is only 0.6″ thick making it one of the thinnest GPS device on the market today.

Exclusive to the nuvi 1490T is a extremely useful feature that lets you easily scroll between screens just by sliding your finger, much like the ubiquitous iphone. With route planning you can save up to 10 routes, specify way points and preview simulated turns on the 5″ wide touchscreen.

The nuvi 1490T is Bluetooth-equipped for handsfree phone hook-up with the unit offering phone book functionality. Just pair it with your compatible Bluetooth phone and talk hands-free through the 1490T while staying focused on the road.

Other features include ecoRoute for “fuel-efficient” navigation, and support for not included CityXplorer maps for certain destinations.

The suggested list price for the Garmin 1490T in the US is $499.99 where it will go on sale around Jun 2009, although the launch date may be delayed. For a similar version with a 4.3″ screen check out the Garmin nuvi 1390T.

Here’s a short Garmin nuvi 1490T review.
