Surface Preparation before Industrial Paint Application

October 27th, 2008 by fcoetsee

It is important that sanding, abrasive blasting or any other mechanical means are used in the removal of all contamination from metal surfaces. In order to create a surface profile, the surface should be abraded to roughen it up. When applying products, the following might be of help to properly prepare a surface.

• Ensure that the surface is completely dry. The strength of the bond to the surface will be affected adversely by moisture.
• All surface contamination should be removed by means of sanding or blasting.
• Use a suitable cleaner to degrease it.
• In order to roughen the surface up, it should be abraded.
• The appropriate primer should be used.
