Piet Mondrian Paintings

Piet Mondrian is actually famous with regard to his abstract painting style which usually became part of the Dutch De Stijl art movement of the early 20th century.

This particular use of main colors by Mondrian allowed him to keep his art simple and allowed him to concentrate his ideas and decisions in other areas of each painting. Primary colors are useful to any artist wanting to create further colours.

Beginner artists can also learn from Mondrian’s use of negative space by studying his work. As an alternative to the painting method above, try placing several cut-out coloured squares onto a big black piece of paper. Evaluating the actual difference will teach you about Mondrian’s use of white to guide the actual eyes of his viewer.
