200 million subscribers
Of the twenty largest mobile phone companies, several are based in the United States. The largest of those mobile phone companies is Verizon Wireless, with AT&T mobility just behind. Those two combine for nearly 170 million customers. Add in T-Mobile, a Germany company that has a large presence in the United States (the largest of any foreign mobile phone companies), and the number balloons to more than 200 million subscribers.
2.4 billion world wide
For some perspective, bear in mind that the world’s largest mobile phone companies are China Mobile, which has over 500 million customers, and England based Vodafone, which has over 600 million. Vodafone’s primary market is in Europe, but they’ve also branched out heavily into the African continent as well.
