Building Your Own Wooden Bird Houses

August 1st, 2010 by craigkant

Building a bird house can be a great Weekend afternoon project. And, with the right set of plans, bird houses are not that hard to make. Before beginning, however, there are a few useful tips that you may want to follow.

Be especially careful of buying wooden substitute products as many won’t be able to withstand harsh weather conditions. And, also, many contain toxic glues that can be harmful to birds. Those that desire wooden bird houses made of solid lumber should be aware that the smallest thickness you can purchase it in is 3/4 inches thick – which it quite a bit thicker than the normal bird houses that you’ll find.

Solid lumber is also more expensive than manufactured wooden products, such as plywood. But if you really love natural woods that much, take the dive and go for it. You will most likely end up with a beautiful, if overpriced, bird house.
