Is there anyone out there besides me who’s tired of a dated master bath? Our house was built in 1941, and we’ve finally settled in enough to start thinking about remodeling. But looking for bathroom decor ideas is a wild process. We’ve discovered that you’ve got to decide early on whether you’re looking for just a cosmetic update or a real, down and dirty makeover. Moving plumbing, not to mention existing walls, doorways and windows, can be a real budget-buster. After crunching the numbers, we decided to stick with a not-so-major remodel.

The local bookstore is a terrific place to start. There’s a plethora of books and magazines with tons of bathroom decor ideas. We found that making an idea, or “inspiration,” book is very helpful. We tore out pictures from our favorite magazines that showcased features we wanted in our newly fabulous space, and we filed them in a three-ring binder. We paid attention to lots of different room designs as well as accessories. We also had to consider what kind of plumbing fixtures, vanity, sink, flooring, window treatments and shelving we wanted, but had some bathroom decor ideas.
