A combination of both conductive and sensorineural hearing loss is usually refered to as mixed hearing loss. Hearing loss can be diagnosed with a series of questions concerning your hearing, if there is any indication that a follow-up is needed then a standard hearing evaluation will be conducted. A standard hearing evaluation can consists of such test as the whisper test, a tuning fork test, pure audiometry, speech reception or word recognition test. Other test are also available to check for possible hearing loss. Often we are exposed to everyday sounds that are too loud. Any sound over 80 decibels can negatively affect the hearing and could cause you to need to wear hearing aids just so you can hear. Exposure to noises such as concerts, and chainsaws are sounds that are 110 decibles or more. Sounds that are 110 decibles can cause permanent hearing loss. When you are exposed to these types of noises for long periods of time you may protect your hearing by choosing to wear earplugs.
