WoW Hunter Pets - Which One to Pick
July 11th, 2008 by GregThe World of Warcraft Hunter is an awesome leveling machine. Add the ranged damage from bow or rifle and the damage and/or tanking from a pet and it’s just like having a well oiled two person team, expect that the Hunter gets all the loot and XP.
Pets generally fall into three categories - Tanks, DPS, all round, and caster. If you want the pet to hold 100% of the attention of the target, while you kill that target, then you want a tanking pet. Bears are great for this and boars have a charge ability that is very useful in PvP.Both can really soak the damage, but they don’t pump out much.
DPS pets throw in a lot more damage, but can’t soak as much as tanking pets. The cats are good examples of these. Cats can hold aggro quite nicely and do pretty good damage, but you have to keep an eye on their health bar.
Caster pets throw great spells and look cool, but don’t hold aggro. So count on killing the target yourself.
