This season there’s definitely a superhero motif in the latest action figures—sweeping up the collectible action figures department are toys like the Transformers action figures that represent larger than life heroic characters. At the same time, classics like Star Wars and GI Joe will always dominate a fair share of the action figure industry. Admittedly, it can be said that most action figures really are all heroes, probably because no one sees more action than they do. Characters like Luke Skywalker do save the galaxy and protect humankind, but they’re in a somewhat different category than say, Spiderman or Optimus Prime. Maybe it’s because Spiderman and Optimus Prime are inherently heroic whereas Star Wars characters make use of fancy lightsabers and starships.
