Chemical peel side effects you should know about

Most procedures that promise a cure, remedy, or more beautiful body, have side effects that you should be aware of. This goes for facial peels as well. For those that don’t know what a facial peel is, it is a procedure where a mild acid is used to peel off the outer layer of dead and damaged skin from your face, revealing the new and smooth skin underneath. The side effects that can be experienced after such a treatment are a result of your skin reacting with the chemical solution.

One of the most common chemical peel side effects is stinging and burning in the skin during or after treatment. As mentioned, this is a result of the chemical reaction happening which removes the outer layer of skin from your face. If women mention this side effect at all it is mostly described as a mild discomfort.

Redness in the area that has been given treatment is also quite common, if not the most common of all side effects. How long the redness will last after your facial peel depends on the peel and how strong it was. A deep facial peel will naturally take longer to heal from than a mild or light peel.

Some women report that they develop scabbing in the treated area, as a response to the trauma caused to the outer skin of your face. However, very few experience this side effect. More women experience flaking and peeling, and it is important not to pick off the skin or you might develop scars or an infection.

All in all, chemical facial peels are pretty safe, and the worst side effects very rare. An allergic reaction, for example, is a serious side effect, so be sure to contact your doctor or a dermatologist beforehand and check that you don’t have any allergies that might prevent you from having a facial peel.
