January 15th, 2010 by cdrotsky@wsiprowebprojects.comEnjoy your hunting adventure to South Africa by following the guidelines regarding clothing, health, insurance, and regulations. When you chose clothing for hunting in Southern Africa, select neutral colors
such as Khaki or green. Pack hiking shoes and boots. Be sure to include at least one jacket for the evenings, a sun hat, and enough casual clothing. South Africa has a warm climate, but since the seasons for hunting often stretch over the cooler winter months, you should pack warm and cool clothes. Regarding health: In general hunting in South Africa takes place in malaria free areas. As a health precaution many hunters take malaria pills before they come to the country and stay on the specific course for three weeks after their trip has finished. The country has a good road and medical infrastructure although the government medical facilities are overloaded. As such getting medical insurance is recommended to ensure that you can make use of private medical care facilities should the need arise. No immunisation is required to enter the country. Travel insurance is always a good idea no matter where you are going. Since the equipment that you use may be all but cheap, it is recommended that you get travel insurance. The gun regulations in South Africa specify that you will need .30 calibre for plains hunting but regulations stipulate at least .375 calibre for buffalo hunting. The maximum allowable weight for ammunition by airlines is 5 kg. No semi automatic or automatic firearms are allowed into the country.
