New Years Eve in Berlin

December 22nd, 2008 by author

Would you like to spend your New Years Eve totally differently this year? Why don’t you think of going to Berlin for that event? You could easily combine that with a city trip to the amazing German capital!

Every year there is the biggest New Years Eve party in Germany on the “Straße des 17. Juni” between the Brandenburger Gate and the Siegessäule. More than one million visitors from all over the world are celebrating this event and it will be shown by 350 national and international TV-channels. You see, it’s definitely worth it!

In total the event will take place on an area of 80.000m2 and the whole party will go on for more than 2 km! Stages, video screens, light- and laser shows will make it to a unique event for all of you!

There will be famous singers with different music on the stages: Rock, pop, live-DJs…There will be something for all of you! Some of the singers will be Marquess and Lutricia McNeal. The testing on the stage will start at 4pm, the actual show will start at 6.30pm on the main stage at the Brandenburger Gate.

The big Party in Berlin has been taking place since 1995. From time to time people call it the biggest Open-Air New Years Party in the world.
Entrance is free but there are some things you have to consider: Due to the crowd of people it is absolutely forbidden to bring fireworks! The big session of fireworks at midnight will be arranged by the organisers of the event, so no one has forego the big traditional fireworks at the beginning of the New Year :-)
Furthermore, bringing aerosol cans is prohibited, as are beverage cans, glass bottles and sharp things! Security is highly important at such an event.
A lot of drinks and food can be bought at the area itself.

The New Years Eve party is something special every year and it’s definitely worth going there. Additionally, Berlin offers loads of sights so the party can be easily combined with a city trip.
You should definitely have a look for accommodation long in advance! Especially at this time of year, as the city is full of visitors from all over the world, so a lot of Unterkünfte Berlin are booked quickly.
If you can’t find a good Hotel Berlin you should have a look for a Ferienwohnung Berlin. Especially if you are travelling with more people an apartment is very good since there is a lot of room for every one.

A personal perspective on visiting the Sacre-Coeur in Paris

December 16th, 2008 by author

I went to Paris at the weekend for the first time since I was a small child. Needless to say, the hazy memories of standing in front of the Eiffel Tower were not really enough to go by and before I visited Paris this weekend I couldn’t have really told you the first thing about it. Now I feel like I’m a Paris expert!

Firstly, I really have to comment on about the choice there is with regards to beautiful Paris apartments. Particularly in the 15th arrondissements there are plenty of small but compact apartments to chose from, make sure you get the perfect one for you. I stayed just outside Montmartre, perfect because this is where I spent most of my time – in the Sacre Coeur!

The Sacre Coeur is enormous and made out of white stone. It can be seen from the Eiffel Tower and is really something to see. It is simply a lovely experience climbing the steps up to the entrance with the sun shining on your back, then you turn round to a stunningly clear view of Paris, a view which I probably will never forget and thought about for hours back in my Paris accommodation.

However, perhaps the best thing about this church is the mosaic inside the dome. I was impressed beyond words with this and it was certainly a moving experience to stand below it. From the back of the church, the huge mosaic of Jesus Christ with his arms open appears as though he is standing up straight and looking down on the congretation. Yet from the front of the church by the alter, you realise that the dome is curved and the talent it must have taken to make the mosaic appear like this is astounding.

This experience is bound to be moving in so many ways, not least of all because of the beauty of this church but because of the candles you can light to remember loved ones who have passed away. Something that I particularly liked about the Sacre-Coeur was the fact that all the decorations, mosaics, statues and carvings were tasteful and not over the top. Finally, do not forget to look at the beautiful stained glass windows.

The Eiffel Tower in Paris

December 16th, 2008 by author

Something I’m sure many of you have done in the past is climb the Eiffel Tower in the wintry cold. I visited Paris in mid December and certainly was not prepared for the weather that was awaiting me…

I left my Paris accommodation on a cold Saturday morning and headed out with my friend in the direction of the Eiffel Tower. The cold hit me straight away and I noticed that every single Parisian that I could see was wrapped up in beret and scarf, so wrapped up in fact that it was impossible to see their faces!

The Eiffel tower is 1,063 ft high and has been visited by more than 200,000,000 since its construction in 1889. There are two ways of getting up the tower, be it by foot or by lift. For some strange reason, my friend and I chose the walking option, not a good idea considering the weather. It costs €3.40 for students to walk up to the second floor, but if you want to go all the way to the top, it costs an extra €5. Going up in the lift costs €5 and you pay again to go all the way to the top.

Our long journey up the Eiffel tower was a long and slow one, and included the numbing of my feet and freezing of my toes. When at the top, there are lots of interesting hints and facts about the Eiffel tower, including a guide for children that tells them when it was built, how high it is and why it was built in the first place, (for the Universal Exhibition in 1889).

As well as this, you can see the roofs of many Paris apartments all the way across Paris and the boards point out the many different sites that you can see, informing you of what they are.

Dream Trips Shouldn’t be Frustrating

December 11th, 2008 by author

Getting lost or frustrated is not something people want to do when they are on their dream vacations. Renting cars and reading maps are not always the most convenient way to enjoy a trip that has been carefully planned to make sure that every sight that can be seen is visited. There is a way that people can get the most out of their trip when they choose a European cruise. Most of these cruises allow for people to see the most historic sites as well as the most popular without ever having to read directions. If the cruise ship does not pass by the important sights the guests will be escorted by bus or train and be back in time to board the ship for the next destination.

Here are some tips and factors to consider when talking about honeymoon vacations, especially when one just simply wants to make the most out of honeymoon vacations, focusing more on the pleasant sides of honeymoon vacations, and veer away from the turmoil and problem areas of honeymoon vacations. Also, with budget plans for honeymoon vacations, honeymooners are assured to not fuzz over financial concerns during the honeymoon itself, as the whole “mulling over finances” portion would already have been done with during the planning phase of honeymoon vacations.

Construction of Roll Bars

December 1st, 2008 by author

The construction of side bars, which is added to the rest of the structure (roll bars), is important when you intend to do wheel-to-wheel racing. Side bars protect the driver in the event of a side impact, also called a “T-bone”. It is located behind the doors of the car. Side bars make the car handle better, and it also stiffens the frame. Chassis tuning is thus made more precise by a stiffer frame. This is the case due to the stable platform being provided for the suspension to react against.

For more information on the construction of roll bars or nudge bars, contact BTM by clicking here.

You Can Get Beach House Rentals Within Budget

December 1st, 2008 by author

When the hot weather hits many people decide to go to the beaches and to cabins by lakes and this is the reason for the booming time for resort owners and camp ground managers in the summer time. Even the airlines fill most of the flights during this time. Our children have grown up and left home so we do not have to work around school schedules. Because of this we have found that if we plan our vacations for the early part of May or the end of September we still have great weather, but we do not have to contend with the crowds or the peak season prices.
For the past couple of years we have gone to the east coast for our vacations. We have found that we can stay for longer periods of time and have nicer accommodations because things are less expensive. We have looked into beach house rentals for years. We have always seen these great properties, but never thought we could afford to stay at them. Now that we plan our vacations during off peak seasons we can afford to get the beach house rentals within our budget. We may spend a bit more than we would for a hotel, but because we have the entire house we can cook our own meals and spend less money on eating out.

Cross Country Travel Is Enjoyable

November 26th, 2008 by author

Whether you are taking cross country motorcycle tours, or just a trip down to a relative’s house in San Francisco, traveling across the country can be a big adventure. I have taken dozens of cross country travel trips, and each one has been different. When I was in college, it was a pretty casual thing. We would clamber into my friend’s beaten up old Ford, head out, deciding where we were going on the way there. That was it but looking back on it, it seems a very foolish thing to do. So many things could have gone wrong after all, and we took no precautions in our planning. Yet back then, we felt carefree. Cross country traveling was just a way to unwind from the semester, and we would do it every chance we had my cross country travels have become a lot more sophisticated.
You see, I am currently employed as a travel writer, and my cross country travel gives me ample fodder for my books. I was actually inspired to take up this career by a road trip that went wrong. A travel book that we were using seemed to be up to date, but it actually had some bad information. There were whole towns that were listed in the cross country travel guide that in fact didn’t exist.

Family Vacations - Holidays With Family

November 13th, 2008 by author

For many, the option of a family holiday or family vacation just isn’t possible. This is especially true of families with teens or children in their twenties. Once children get to their teens, it isn’t “cool” to be seen with mom and dad, and family vacations no longer happen.

However, if you are able to, offer to take a friend as well for each of your children. This helps a great deal, and can be a lot of fun for everyone.

Another way is to take camping vacations, where you meet other families every year at the same place, same location. This can be harder to arrange, but can lead to some very enjoyable holidays, where the children have others to play with that they know and look forward to seeing again, and the same applies to the parents. Knowing that it is not going to be just your family for a week or two, can remove some of the pressure, and can lead to more relaxing holiday times.

There are some great vacation videos you can browse through to see if you are interested in travelling there with your family. It makes planning your next holiday much easier!

Coupeling up in Berlin

November 11th, 2008 by author

It is no secret that Berlin offers a lot to see and to do. But one thing you should know is that you can save a lot of money by seeing and doing all of these things!

If you visit the German capital with a partner, the get2riCard offers you the chance to see a lot of things in the city but save a lot of money at the same time! The way it works is quiet simple: Just order the card online or buy it in one of the many selling points in Berlin directly. The card costs 20euros and it will give you discounts for more than 300 establishments. Since the card is non-transferable you have to write your name and the starting date on it. From that day on the card is effective for 7 days. Your partner does not need an own card so you can share the card with a partner so that they can benefit from the discounts as well.

Additional to the card you will get a map as well as an overview of all partners and their offers if you show them your card. Most partners will give you a discount of around 50% by having “2 for 1” offers. All partners are divided into 9 categories: Culture, nightlife, Food & Drink, Movies, Beauty, Sport, Sightseeing and travel, Services and shopping. Therefore, the card provides you with discounts for any sights that are not free of charge, souvenir shops, hotels and hairdressers for example.

As you can see, the get2riCard offers you a lot of possibilities. Furthermore, you might find some special tips in your partner overview which you might not have considered without the card! If you plan to stay longer in Berlin, there is also the get2Card. This works the same way as the get2riCard but it is valid for a year and costs 60euros.

Have a look for a nice travel partner and discover the city! Plan your travel long enough in advance and have a look at what you want to see and how much you can save. Have a closer look at the partner overview and think about what you want to see when. You should do the same with your accommodation. There is a lot of cheap accommodation (Unterkünfte Berlin) which is a great starting point to discovering the city. Have a look at all the Hotels in Berlin (Hotel Berlin) or look for an apartment (Ferienwohnung Berlin).

Diesel Powered Trucks Performance

November 9th, 2008 by author

The diesel powered trucks are not on the list of choice for many of the inexperienced buyers, owing to their higher engine cost. The excess money that you spend to buy a diesel truck can be saved on the fuel that you spend for it in a year, when compared to its gasoline counterpart. If your truck is intended to do a lot of towing or high power works then it is always advisable to go for diesel trucks as they have a longer lifespan than their gas driven counterparts. The truck gas mileage can be quite high. When the fuel used is diesel, it could save around $1500 - $2500 for 10,000 miles of driving with the diesel and gas costs assumed to be same. So, a diesel truck is nearly always a better option when it comes to mileage and life of the engine.

Learn Spanish Words, quick and easy

November 7th, 2008 by author

Whether you wish to learn Spanish because you are getting married to a Spaniard or in preparation for a trip to a Spanish speaking country. All reasons are great to do so.

However, the main reason why you’re interested in learning, will determine the best available way to learn Spanish and to which extend. For example, someone that needs Spanish language within the work environment will have a larger and more elaborate vocabulary than someone who needs to learn “Survival Spanish” for a weeklong vacation.

One important fact to memorize when you approach language learning is: ‘Do not rush yourself’. You can`t learn to run, before learning to walk. Same applies to Spanish , so you will need to take Spanish lessons before you can teach them. Simply learn Spanish words and sentences in the beginning.

So do not try to jump ahead of time and learn more than your mind is capable of absorbing. If you manage your time well and learn the basics, you will avoid unnecessary stress and disappointment.

It is very important for you to remain motivated throughout the learning process. We are all unique individuals; with diverse strengths and abilities and every person has his/her own learning rhythm , but the motivation needs to be there nonetheless.

You can learn Spanish easily in a number of ways: through bi-lingual books, audio material, immersion programs etc. The jury is out when it comes to choosing the most effective method, but for a lot of people the best way to learn Spanish it to attend to actual classes.

As well, you might want to take Spanish lessons, if you have difficulties organizing your time. You will not only benefit from interactive group work and structured Spanish lessons, but also from its schedule.

You can also consider private lessons, which will offer you 1 on 1 attention. As long as you find a good tutor, your smallest questions and concern will be addressed. Is there a better alternative for improving your pronunciation, than having a human set of ears listen to your every word?

Expectations when it comes to learning Spanish are different from one person to another. For example some people want to learn Spanish quickly and forget about the formalities, others decide to study in thoroughly with all grammatical particularities.

Nowadays, due to technological advancement, you can actually learn Spanish on the internet. You can also enroll yourself to an online class.

All methods are good. Just pick one and go to the end of it. You can accomplish anything you want..

I was once in your shoes. My beginnings were humble, but I was in love with this beautiful and seductive language called Spanish. And after a lot searching I was able to find an approach which was most suitable for me. Even some of my friends joined me in my journey.

I found the right tool for myself. Everything suddenly started to make sense. So hand in there. I’ve been there before. Just remember that without pain, there is no gain. Trust me, its worth your efforts. Hang in there, and victory will be yours!

A Unique Taste of Paris

October 15th, 2008 by author

If you’ve been to Paris before and are returning but want to eat in the not so touristy place, this article is for you. Just like visiting the Eiffel tower, going to the Champs-Elysees and see L’arc de Triomf are all must sees, sometimes when you’ve visited a place once, you feel confident to do more exploring the next time, and searching for the less known gems of the city. Why not try some more unusual and less touristy restaurants and food this time round. However, it’s always a good idea to book your Paris hotel or Paris apartment in the centre, that way, you’re never too far from anything!

An exciting experience for all you cheese lovers out there has to be a visit to the traditional and scrumptious: “Saxe-Breteuil”. This market offers a delicious selection of Paris’ finest cheeses and perhaps best of all – a simply wonderful view of the Eiffel tower in front. The produce available here is chic and unique – look out for farmer’s goat’s cheese, rare apple varieties, oysters and food from small scale producers. The market can be found at av de Saxe, 7th Mº Ségur; from 7am-2.30pm Thur;7am-3pm Sat.

If you don’t want the typical tiny portions characteristic of many elitist Parisian restaurants, but look for a hearty meal that is really going to fill you up, “L’Ambassade d’Auvergne” at 22 rue du Grenier-St-Lazare in the 3rd arrondissement is perfect for a hungry sightseer. This traditional, rustic restaurant offers starters such as cured ham and green lentils cooked in goose fat and covered in bacon and shallots. Main courses such as the rôti d’agneau provides you with a pot of delicious chunks of lamb in a rich meaty sauce with a helping of white beans. With a warm, cosy atmosphere, this restaurant is perfect too, for those of you looking for a romantic evening together. (Open Sept-July noon-2pm, 7.30-10.30pm Mon-Fri.

If you are bored with the traditional French bread and crossiants, why not give some delicious sweeties a try! Hédiard at 21 pl de la Madeleine, 8th is a quaint vintage shop dating back to 1880. Here, you will be able to feast your eyes upon a selection of jams, candied fruits and rare teas and coffees. The tearoom upstairs “La Table d’Hédiard” is quaint with good service.

Finally, before wandering back to your Paris accommodation after sampling some of the city’s gastronomical delights, make sure you know the tipping etiquette. A service charge of ten to 15 per cent is legally included in your bill at all restaurants, cafes and bars. However, you may choose to round up the final amount for drinks or leave cash of €1-€2 or more for a meal.

Tips for Proper Car Service Repair

October 15th, 2008 by author

Proper car servicing is important if someone expects to benefit from a superior car performance over the long haul. As the price of owning a car continues to increase, paying attention to good car service maintenance will allow for lengthier car ownership. As time goes on, this protracted ownership period will help reduce the costs of car loan payments and interest charges. It’s imperative to realize how to discover a superior car servicing place, as well as how to steer clear of getting suckered by dishonest repair locations.

There are various car service time intervals to be aware of. A few crucial timeframes are as follows: at every 3000 miles or 3 months, the oil should be changed. Change the spark plugs every 30,000 to 50,000 miles. Tires should be rotated every 6,000 miles or so. It used to be that a timing belt would be taken out and replaced every 60,000 miles, but now some have differing intervals and owner’s instructions should also be read. Tires should be aligned every 15,000 to 20,000 miles. At every 35,000 to 40,000 miles, the fuel filter should be changed. Following car servicing timeframes such as those described above will help make certain that a car lasts for a long time.

Owners of Volvo cars should always take notice of the above car service timeframes as well as looking at their manuals for correct Volvo service on their vehicle. All Volvos should be worked on at the right service intervals that are discussed in Volvo Service Records booklets or at one of the Volvo dealerships. By paying attention to all car servicing obligations on the body and under the hood, Volvo purchasers can keep their autos in wonderful condition and get pleasure from their driving time for a lot of years.
Another aspect to car servicing to be conscious of are car service repair scams. A set of people who are often victims of this type of deception are the elderly. One such trick takes place when an apparently concerned individual flags an elderly person down. This scam artist discloses to the car owner that it appears as if the car requires repairs. The con artist then puts the auto up on the jack and untightens the tire so it will appear loosened. The older individual is tricked into providing the rip-off artist money to fix the issue.

When transporting an automobile in for car servicing, recognize that some repair establishments will add unnecessary repairs to the work form in order to increase profits. Bringing the auto to an additional car service repair place can aid in figuring out whether the additional repairs are truly needed or not.

Pleasantly Surprised on my Czech Republic River Cruise

September 29th, 2008 by author

I get seasick very, very easily, so when my brother recommended that we go on a Czech Republic river cruise I was a little surprised. I guess his wife had suggested it and he does as he’s told, so the next thing I knew we were going, no further discussion.
I was convinced that I would have a miserable time, but I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. Not only did I avoid getting sick, but I truly loved the country. The people were very friendly and each city and town we visited was more lovely than the last. I hate to admit it, but I would go again in a heartbeat.

A Yangtze River Cruise Perfect for Retirees

September 29th, 2008 by author

After watching the Olympics this year, my husband and I decided that it was time to visit China and planned the trip immediately. Someone recommended that we travel on a Yangtze river cruise and we are so glad that we took their advice. We were able to see Beijing, Shanghai, and those famous terra cotta soldiers. But the best part was just being able to cruise along the river and see how beautiful China really is. It’s particularly good for retirees because the company takes care of everything for you and your trip is pretty much stress free. Looking forward to booking the next one!

There has not been a lot of seal movement and as such we have not seen a very intense amount of natural predations. There have been a number of busy days and some of these events have been very spectacular sights. Chris feels that from a photography point of view there are perhaps 10 exceptional photographic opportunities in a season. We had two events only a few days apart that he was able to capture. One of these exceptional images is of a great white shark cage diving &breaching out of the water with its mouth wide open in incredible light and the seal still in frame. You can view these images on Photo’s of the Month. On both occasions the seal managed to evade capture and this was after a protracted chase on the surface. Try Shark Cage Diving

Amazing Rhone River Cruise

September 15th, 2008 by author

The last time I was in France before my Rhone River cruise was when I was 8 years old. We stayed with my grandparents by the beach and I remembered it as being a very nice trip. This time I was with my family and we were still near the water, only this time we were on a ship. I couldn’t have picked a better way to spend time with one another. We enjoyed all of the walking tours we did, our delicious meals both on and off the ship, and relaxing together on the sun deck. I recommend this trip to anyone who wants a full French experience without having to think about every last detail on your own.

Why You Need a China River Cruise

September 15th, 2008 by author

I bet you don’t think you travel enough. I know I do and I actually have been able to travel a lot more now that I’m retired. I knew I wanted to visit China, but it’s such a huge country, I didn’t know where to begin. My travel buddy suggested that we try a China river cruise. We’d be able to see much more that we would on a regular trip and we wouldn’t have to worry about booking hotels, etc. Well, we went and it was an amazing experience. China is such a fascinating, varied place that it was incredible that we were able to see so much over the course of a few weeks. I recommend the cruise to anyone who wants the full experience.

Where to purchase rugby tickets

September 9th, 2008 by author

Union is a game played outside on an oval field with fifteen players to a side. It is a form of contact sport and each side attempts to make a goal by throwing and kicking the football behind the team’s goal post. The opposing team must impede this aim. This game has become a popular spectator game and Lions tickets are regularly wanted.

Rugby union has developed into an world game, with countries across the world developing national teams. The game has gained particular fame and esteem in countries such as England, Australia, Wales, France and New Zealand. With the increasing internationalization of the game, there is a growing focus on worldwide games where nations play against each other for the honor of being the top in the world. These worldwide games - and the Lions tickets - draw a global audience.

The precise beginnings of rugby union are unknown, although games involving kicking and throwing a football would have been known for some time. The rules of rugby union, however, were first laid down in the English town of Rugby in 1845. Although the game was codified so that rules governed its play, rugby union players supported the principle of amateurism. Where different sports built up the professionalism of the game with team members who played the game for a living; rugby union did not become a ‘professional’ game until 1995. Although an ‘amateur’ sport until 1995, Lions tickets have been sold for as long as the game has been in existence.

The worldwide games are perhaps one of the most highly regarded modes of games in rugby union and the enormous numbers of Lions tickets bought are a testament to that. There are three known worldwide games: the Tri Nations series, which is played by Australia, New Zealand and South Africa in the southern hemisphere; the Six Nations Championship, played by England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, France and Italy and the Rugby World Cup, the only truly global rugby union competiton.

Each year, greater and greater Lions tickets are sold throughout the globe as global games become ever more popular. The earliest worldwide game in rugby union history was the so-called “Home Nations” games that began in 1883 with England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Gradually, this became the Five Nations Championship with the addition of France in 1910 and then the Six Nations Championship with the addition of Italy in 2000. The southern hemisphere version is the Tri Nations Series, which has its start in the informal games between Australia and New Zealand, which began in 1903. South Africa toured both nations in 1921 but the informal games did not become a official worldwide match until 1996.

The Six Nations Championship has been surpassed by the Rugby World Cup as the premier worldwide game, from its beginning game in 1987. Although a belated development on the worldwide rugby union scene, more than two million rugby tickets were sold in 2007, which easily competes with the amount of Lions tickets purchased for other global games.

The format of the worldwide games varies between every event. Both the Six Nations Championship and Tri Nations Series are held yearly and Lions tickets sell out quickly. However, where in the Six Nations Championship each side plays every other side once; in the Tri Nations each side plays the other three times, with the overall champion decided on a points system. The Rugby World Cup is held every four years and the twenty involved countries go through two stages: a group and a knock-out. The next Cup for which rugby tickets will be sold is in 2011, when the World Cup will be hosted by New Zealand.

Six Nation rugby tickets make excellent gifts for any rugby fan of your acquaintance. Lions tickets can be purchased for any budget and it is a game appropriate for all ages and is a great way for a family to spend time with each other. Even friends who don’t usually follow rugby union find themselves enjoying the game if they’ve been given Lions tickets - it’s never long before the liveliness of the spectators and the exhilaration of a live game gets them hooked!

Lions tickets are sold by many companies. Lions tickets are sold on a first-come, first-served basis and all ticket buyers are given a seat allocation. The simplest way to acquire Lions tickets is on the internet and prices vary depending on where the ticket-holder’s seat in the stadium will be. For worldwide games, Lions tickets can sell very quickly so it is always advised to get in and purchase them as soon as possible.
