History of Barefoot Skiing

September 19th, 2010 by author

Water skiing, very much like snow skiing, is usually done on an actual pair of skis. But, sometimes, a non-conformist, on a whim, will choose to go without skis.

Barefoot water skiing was first highlighted at Cypress Gardens in Florida in the late nineteen forties. The sport, which begin as a daredevil stunt, soon became into a full blown competitive sport. Fresh tricks were added such as the beach start, the 2 ski jump as well as backwards barefoot skiing.

If you want to participate in this comparatively serious sport, you will need certain kinds of equipment. You will first need a barefoot wetsuit. This will enable you to perform most tricks safely. This wetsuit consists of padded neoprene which provides the correct amount of floatation so that a life jacket is not needed. Special ropes are made just for the purpose of barefoot skiing.

What Is Golf Swing Timing?

September 10th, 2010 by author

A great golf swing occurs when the upper and lower body is synchronized, some would say “staying connected.”

Golf swing timing can be one of the most misunderstood terms used in golf today. You hear the use of the word “timing” but it is never really explained.

Whenever you watch a good player hit a golf ball and whenever you hit a good shot, this is what timing means. Golf swing timing is your ability to swing the arms down while your left hip turns and moves out of the way.

One of the mistakes that some people make occurs, when they swing the arms down and the left hip never moves, there is no follow through with the hips. The body stays too rigid causing the hands to cross over. Which causes the club face to close too quickly at the bottom of the stroke. If your timing is off because you didn’t move your lower body in sync with the swing, your arms will cross over real quick.

Aggressive Alpine Skiing For Fun

September 9th, 2010 by author

Skiing is a great winter sport. And beginners who are learning the sport can have a great deal of fun once they get a bit of practice under their belt.

And practice does not mean you can’t have fun at the same time. Rather than turn your practice into military drills, you can consider them as games and still be able to learn the right technique for aggressive alpine skiing. Anyone interested in skiing will work to improve themselves.

The first thing you may want to consider is trying to ski without poles which will improve your balance and teach you the correct ways of shifting your weight that in turn will come in handy the next time you want to do some aggressive alpine skiing. Also, you need to practice your skiing on different types of terrain – again without the use of poles.

Having Fun While Alpine Skiing

September 1st, 2010 by author

Even though the sport of skiing is fast being overtaken by snowboarding as the supreme extreme winter sport, there are still hundreds of thousands of people who look forward to hitting the ski slopes as winter approaches. The most popular type of skiing is alpine or downhill skiing.

Alpine skiing can be as mild or extreme as you want. For example, some hills are rather small while others are, in reality, like small mountains. Most people who are new to alpine skiing will prefer the beginner’s slopes (small hills) just to get comfortable with sliding down the hill and learning how to stop.

More practiced skiers will head for the longer, steeper hills or mountains which likely will bring more of a challenge in avoiding huge rocks, dips and other things in their path. All alpine skiers agree that the sensation of skiing down a hill or mountain is quite a rush and they enjoy the adrenaline pumping through them when they do.

The Best Golf Chipping Instruction

August 27th, 2010 by author

It is obvious that every shot you ever play in a game of golf will be different. The distance to the green, the lie of the ball, the length of the grass and the speed of the green will always vary. Therefore there is no one chip shot that is better than the next. It will depend on a variety of conditions.

Let’s be more specific about golf chipping instruction, and consider the different chip shots that you can use.

If there is a lot of green between you and the hole, you should use the low chip shot. This shot is normally made with a mid-iron, such as the six- or seven-iron. The ball should be kept toward the back of your stance to get the descending type of impact required. Again, keep your hands ahead of the club head and the club face square to the target.

The low chip shot is good to use when you can aim directly at the hole and want to have more control over your distance.

The best golf chipping instruction available, is to practice by regularly using the different chip shots and a variety of clubs. Only when you have gained the confidence in which club to use in which situation, will you see your scoring improve.

Fishing boats and boat insurance

April 27th, 2010 by author

This is pretty much a no brainer but first you need to figure out what you want to do with your boat. Obviously the primary purpose will be fishing but what kind of fishing. Obviously if you are only going to be trolling you need a different setup than if you are going to always be anchoring and sitting.

If you want to be a tournament fisherman, which can be quite exciting even in small local tournaments, you should consider a boat with a motor no less than 150 HP and probably shorter than 19 feet. For those of you who plan to fish on deeper water regularly you might find that a 200 HP motor and a boat at least 20 feet long or more will be ideal.

If you don’t plan on doing any tournament fishing but instead want to go after fish like bass, walleyes or crappies you’ll want smaller fishing boats. Perhaps in the 17-18 foot range with a minimum of 115 HP for the motor. With that boat you can enjoy it on lakes or rivers.

If you own or are considering owning a boat make sure you get insurance for your watercraft. Sometimes people don’t realize that they need this type of insurance on their boats. Some don’t even know you can get boat insurance. Bottom line is if you own a boat you need insurance. Before you insure your boat here are some things you should know.

There are a lot of states that now require this type of liability coverage on your boat. What this insurance does is protect you against any damage that you cause to others or their property with your boat. It’s a good thing to have. This type of insurance will also protect you for vandalism, stranding, fire, sinking, collision and even theft. Check online or call your insurance agent to see what’s required in your state.

Visualisation Techniques for Golf

April 3rd, 2010 by author

One of the most important techniques often employed by successful professional golfers is shot visualisation. Since confidence plays such a key role in the game of golf, these individuals work hard to envision success prior to each round and more importantly, prior to each shot.

They can see their tee shots flying straight down the middle of the fairway, they envision approach shots landing on the green, and they can literally hear the ball dropping in the hole on short putts.

This helps these players make more confident swings, which is an absolute key if you want to be successful.

Finding Reasonable Ski Packages

April 2nd, 2010 by author

Another way of finding great skiing packages is to target some of the less high profile resorts in the area who can afford to offer you greater deals because they’re not spending as much money on marketing and advertising.

For example, in the U.S., one of the hidden gems is the state of Vermont. Vermont is not usually mentioned as a ski destination when people begin to plan their ski trips. Instead, you’ll find places like Colorado, Canada, California, Nevada, Canada, and so on. But Vermont may be the ideal place for a beautiful, low key trip.

You’ll find many cozy cabins, away from the hustle and bustle of major cities that will take you back decades to the days of horse-drawn carriage rides, log cabin fire places, and friendly neighborhoods. In addition, because it is not one of the top tier states for skiing, the rates for their packages can be more than reasonable.

Women’s Snowboard Jackets Coming With New Features

March 30th, 2010 by author

t’s only recently that women have gravitated towards the sport of snowboarding. But clothing manufacturers have already targeted that demographic as one that they’d love to capture. To do so, many of these manufacturers have begun to differentiate their lines by introducing their own womens snowboard jacket features.

One such feature that some have introduced is the drawstring on waistband. This is similar in functionality to the wrist zipper. Helps to control the flow of air around your upper torso. Drawing the waistband keeps you warm in cold weather, loosening it keeps you cool in warm weather.

Another feature is zipped side pockets. These are jackets with unzipped pockets are cheaper but having zipped side pockets are handy when you want to store your locker keys or other small items in your jacket without fear of them falling out.

When does a 4 Season Tent Become an Essential Piece of Camping Gear?

March 30th, 2010 by author

There is no real need to get 4 season tents for delicate summer camping but it is definately an essential piece of outdoor camping gear for bad weather and harsh conditions. Even if there’s a heavy downpour, the employment of sleeping pads mixed with adequate planning should keep everything reasonably dry. The most important thing is to not camp at the base of a hill, to make certain the rain fly is secure, and to use natural cover. A 4 season tent could be a good thing to have for acute conditions, and if you’ve got the cash to spend on one, it’s a luxury that may actually enhance your camping experience. Essentially, the difference between 4 season tents and regular tents is a four season tent is tighter, with heavier outer walls.

When it is all zipped up, there isn’t any space anywhere for the elements to get in which makes it the perfect gear for outdoor camping when you really need to keep the heat in. Additionally, 4 season tents are sometimes stabler so they can resist very heavy tempests if need be. This doesn’t mean that you can’t use 4 season tents in nicer weather. Many styles of 4 season tents come with the power to unzip the outer fly so you can keep cool on summer days, while still facing near-arctic temperatures in winter.

You will find, however, that the more extreme the conditions for which it was designed, the more specialized a 4 season tent will be. For example, some true mountaineering 4 season tents are not things that you would like to take camping on a warm summer night. The ventilation panels are small, with the result that it will be stuffy and hot at night if you are camping during the summer with them. Additionally, they are made of heavier, stronger material, and as a result are an added burden for your normal camping trip.

And of course, good 4 season tents can be prohibitively expensive, running upwards of $500 dollars sometimes. Compare this to a 1-2 person summer tent that you might buy at your camping store. I got mine for $30 dollars and, although it provides little warmth, it works alright during the summer when combined with a decent sleeping bag. The truth of the matter is, it is important to think about what you will be doing before you go out and buy expensive mountaineering equipment and 4 season tents that you will not need. You must make sure that your equipment fits its purpose.

Curved Tip Snowboard

March 27th, 2010 by author

You may think that snowboarding is for the young, though you should not be surprised to see many elderly and middle-aged people also indulging in snowboarding. This means that you must select your snowboard with care and remember that there is a curved tip snowboard whose main aim is to help the board move smoothly over snow that is uneven.

Sometimes you will also find that there is curved tip snowboard which is curved at the rear end of the snowboard as well, though it will not have as pronounced an upturn as in the front and how much of upturn it should have may depend on the time you plan on going backwards.

The physics for designing a snowboard for snowboard jumps are unique. You can be sure that there are many differently designed snowboards and one curved tip snowboard may be quite different from another, and even length, width as well sidecut, flex may be different from one snowboard to another.

Top Tips to Increase Your Vertical Jump

March 25th, 2010 by author

There are a lot of reasons why you need to consider increasing your vertical jump in the sport of basketball. Jacob Hiller’s Jump Manual is our top recommendation for a trainig program. Read our Jump Manual review here. It helps improve your offense and defense skills bringing them up to a higher level Jumping higher also boosts your chances to block more shots and dunk the basketball with power. Having the ability to slam dunk a basketball with style is any players dream as not anyone is able to do it. The proper training and nutrition is one of the main causes of the majority of aspiring jumpers not being able to do it correctly.

The very first thing you need to know is if you have been training for a long time and still have not got any results, stop everything right now. If you’ve trained wrong just like me, you will waste more time and energy. To be able to increase your vertical jump for basketball or any other sporting activities, you will need to train the right muscle groups using the proper workouts and exercises. Consider wanting to run more quickly. Training with a 100m run would be proper whilst running long distances would be more appropriate if you desired to boost stamina.

One of the ideal exercises to help strengthen your jumping muscles is known as the squat. The workouts must be intense with large weights and lower repetitions. If you have an increased upper body fat percentage, it is best to add more cardio exercises to your workout routines. Carrying excess fat will also be blocking you from possessing that killer vertical jump. Including an exercise program for your back, glutes, shins, calves and hamstring muscles should also be done, especially if you are on the slim side.

Your calves help you to spring off the floor and jump higher whilst your back plays an important part in stabilizing your body whilst you are in the air. The two most important aspects of jumping higher are explosiveness and speed. The quicker and stronger you can get off the ground, the higher your leap will be. That’s exactly why training your ankles flexibility is also a very important part of your workout routines. Some of the best programs available have been written by Kelly Baggett a top vetical jump trainer. He has released the flying in four program recently. Read our complete Flying in Four Review. he has partnered with ALex Maroko in this project and it is one of the best vertical jump programs available today.

Finding a jump program that provides 1 on 1 attention is among the best ways to improve your vertical jump. I discovered this to be a much better way to transform your game because every person is different in many ways. Whether you need to lose more weight or gain muscles, you should find the best workout routines and diets to maximize the potential results.

Also, with over 80 local restaurants to choose from, you’ll find it easy choosing one that satisfies your taste buds – even though you’ll probably find it a bit pricey.

Golf Mental Game Building A Winner’s Mindset

March 8th, 2010 by author

Have you ever noticed that when you’re not having a great game of golf, you only ever notice the bad breaks? Weird isn’t it because I’m sure that if you actually recorded the number of bad breaks and the number of good breaks that they would more than likely even themselves up over time !

The fact of the matter is that it’s NOT the bad breaks that will wreck your round of golf, it’s the way you deal with them that will make or break your round. The concept is that when a ball has a bad lie, or lands in a divot, that you should walk to the ball with no different a mind set than if it were in a great place and to see each ball as a new challenge both for the physical result and for developing your mental strength.

This is all part of learning to play golf under pressure as calmly as you do when playing a casual round with friends.

The Golf Mental Game Training Course is reviewed in depth at Golf Mental Training with a detailed review of the 2nd part of the golf audio coaching session- Building a Winner’s Mindset.

Hunting dogs and goose hunting

February 25th, 2010 by author

South Dakota goose hunting has been good for years now. The first year I lived in Lake Preston, SD I was amazed at the numbers of geese and ducks flying overhead for days at at a time. Fall migration of waterfowl from Canada filled the sky with more flocks and birds than I could have ever counted. South Dakota goose hunting is great in both the fall and the spring.

SD has a spring goose hunting season for snows, blues and ross’ geese. The 2010 spring season for snow geese is from February 2010 through May 3rd and again this year the hunting is expected to be excellent. Snow goose hunting has been excellent for more than a few years now and daily limits are common.

Spring goose hunting is as good as fall but no Federal waterfowl stamp is required. It’s a special goose season to thin out some of the snow and blue geese due to their ruining their Canadian habitat from over population.

Hunting dogs are certainly the best possible ally of the hunter, as they sniff and scavenge for prey in the deepest and darkest brush of the forest. There are many different possibilities for a hunting dog type that you can take on your next trip.

The type of dog you should take on your hunting trip should be directly related to the type of hunting you are planning on. If you are planning on hunting fur-bearing animals, for example, you would be more satisfied with a hound than you would be with a terrier.

The most common main category of hunting dogs is the hound. Hounds are actually divided into two categories from there: the sighthound and the scent hound. As their names imply, each sub-category of dog type refers to a certain skill that the dog tends to be more proficient in.

Learn to Snowboard Class

February 1st, 2010 by author

Before you join a learn to snowboard class, one of the questions that you will most likely have early on is what do I wear? What kind of equipment is best for me? What bindings should I choose, and so on.

Since you don’t yet know the answer to these questions, the first few times that you go snowboarding, and probably even a few times after that, rent your equipment. Do not buy it. On different outings, rent different types of snowboards to find which ones you are most comfortable with. If you can, try different brands of bindings as well.

The assistants in the rental shops will be able to help you to select the snowboard, boots, and bindings that are right for you. But ultimately, until you get out on the slopes, you won’t know if they are right for you or not. And once you know what’s right for you, you can then invest in your own personal snowboarding gear.
