The East and the West Meet this Halloween

July 16th, 2010 by author

Vikings were raiders who traveled across the sea and settled in new villages to trade. They are opportunists who killed the locals that refused to do what they wanted. They are known for colonizing parts of Europe and North American continent because of their mischievous activities. They were originally based in Norse land, now commonly known as Scandinavia.

If you want to look like these warriors for a night, you can dress up this Halloween in Viking Costumes. They can be distinguished easily because of their helmet with two cow horns on both sides. They are always ready to battle in their protected heavy duty tunic and armed with a sword and shield. They also used animal fur to keep them warm during their sea journeys.

From the west, meet the other popular warriors of Asia this Halloween, the Samurais. You can dress up like them in Samurai Costumes. There are different styles available, but the traditional look of a Samurai warrior is known for wearing black samurai robe with red trimmings, similar pair of pants, and belt. Of course, a real Samurai is recognizable in his samurai sword.

Another version is the Royal Samurai Costume that comes with an embroidered kimono, matching under wrap, and headpiece that highlights the costume.

Accessorize with a face paint or makeup to complement this oriental costume. Wearing a wig with a ponytail will much enhance your samurai look. You cannot go to the party with bare feet as Samurai’s usually do, so find a pair of perfect sandals that will match your costume.

The East and West warriors will soon meet this Halloween. Thus, be ready to defend your own territory!

Thomas Edison’s Mom Is A Hero

June 12th, 2010 by author

When Thomas was a young lad, he attended public school, but had a terrible time staying focused. His mind often wandered. I suspect he was bored out of his mind. He lasted a whopping three months in public school. He would be home schooled from that point forward. Edison recounted later:” My mother was the making of me. She was so true, so sure of me and I felt I had something to live for, someone I must not disappoint.”

Edison’s mother was the primary driver of his life. She home schooled him from an early age and cultivated his incredible ability to think, solve problems and invent. Most of Edison’s education came from reading a book called R.G. Parker’s School of Natural Philosophy. I don’t know anything about this book. It must have been some kind of book.

There is just so much can be said about Thomas Edison, much more than a few paragraphs. It was my intent to show how this man became such a giant in American history and what drove him to be so exceptional. His mom was the hero we never heard about. Without his mom, I doubt we would have ever heard of Thomas Edison. If you are a mom or dad that is reading this, never under-estimate your influence in your child’s life. You might be raising a child that will change the world. You never know!

I leave you with this, Thomas Edison had a placard on his desk that read: “There is no expedient to which a man will not resort to avoid the real labor of thinking.” Thank you Thomas Edison for reminding us not to avoid the hard work of thinking.

Freshwater fishing tips and fishing with GPS

April 27th, 2010 by author

In this day and age, you would be hard pressed to find a fishing boat without some sort of fish finding device. Fishing with GPS devices has become the latest in technology and water safety when it comes to fishing. They are used as a means of navigation and a way to mark your spot so that you can find it again in the future.

A GPS is a Global Positioning System that is made primarily for navigational purposes. They work off a network of satellites that are placed into orbit by the United States Government. The best part about a GPS system is that because they operate off satellite, they can be used in any weather conditions at any hour of the day so it’s perfect for fishing with GPS.

This is a freshwater fishing tips blog. Just one of many fishing blogs on the net but I hope it becomes one of the better fishing blogs on the net. For me it’s a natural to have a blog about fishing and it fits right in with this site and it’s hunting and fishing forums.

Fishing is my favorite sport. I suppose I should say fresh water fishing is my favorite outdoors sport as I don’t particularly like ocean fishing. Then again I’m not much on river fishing either. Probably because I learned to fish in freshwater lakes and that’s where I’ve done the bulk of my fishing.

What’s my favorite fish to catch? When I’m fishing whatevers biting becomes my favorite fish. Sure, I start out fishing for walleyes or northerns but if I find the crappies are biting good I’ll switch to crappies. Having a love for catching as well as fishing I go with what’s biting the best.

Visualisation Techniques for Golf

April 3rd, 2010 by author

One of the most important techniques often employed by successful professional golfers is shot visualisation. Since confidence plays such a key role in the game of golf, these individuals work hard to envision success prior to each round and more importantly, prior to each shot.

They can see their tee shots flying straight down the middle of the fairway, they envision approach shots landing on the green, and they can literally hear the ball dropping in the hole on short putts.

This helps these players make more confident swings, which is an absolute key if you want to be successful.

Curved Tip Snowboard

March 27th, 2010 by author

You may think that snowboarding is for the young, though you should not be surprised to see many elderly and middle-aged people also indulging in snowboarding. This means that you must select your snowboard with care and remember that there is a curved tip snowboard whose main aim is to help the board move smoothly over snow that is uneven.

Sometimes you will also find that there is curved tip snowboard which is curved at the rear end of the snowboard as well, though it will not have as pronounced an upturn as in the front and how much of upturn it should have may depend on the time you plan on going backwards.

The physics for designing a snowboard for snowboard jumps are unique. You can be sure that there are many differently designed snowboards and one curved tip snowboard may be quite different from another, and even length, width as well sidecut, flex may be different from one snowboard to another.

Using Price Guides To Determine Your Classic Car Value

March 16th, 2010 by author

What is the value of your classic car? How much is it worth? This is one of the first questions you are likely to be asked when you are looking to sell your car. One way of determining its value is to consult the listings in the various price guides.

It’s hard to overestimate the effect that the industry price guides have on the classic car value. Most collectors use one or more of these guides as the starting point in determining how much a car is worth in the marketplace.

The classic car price guide offers an approximation of how much a certain car model is worth at a particular point in time. And it’s a mistake to look at their valuations as more than approximations because not all cars of the same make and model are of the same quality.

Queen Of Hearts Halloween Costume

February 4th, 2010 by author

Why not try a Queen of Hearts Halloween costume this year? The idea, of course, comes from Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland. If you’ve read the book or watched the film adaptations, you’ll know that she is a great character to play. She’s completely crazy and at the least provocation shouts “Off with his head!!” You can get very grand traditional royal costumes or you can choose the more modern sexy variety. You can have a lot of fun with the makeup also. There are some really cute kids costumes as well for your children.

Have a look at the pictures from the new Alice film by Tim Burton which is due out this year – there are some great makeup ideas there. How about an Alice In Wonderland themed party – there are some great costumes to choose from including Alice and the Mad Hatter.

Freshwater fishing – northern pike fishing tips

January 24th, 2010 by author

This is a fishing blog.

While I love fishing I stopped eating fish a long time ago. Nowdays I either give all of my fish away or throw them back. Catch and release is good for anglers, good for the fish and makes fishing better. It ensures there will be some fish for the next person who comes along.

These northern pike fishing tips are primarily for fall northern pike fishing. For me fall northern fishing was always better than spring fishing. Doing most of my northern fishing in MN, with their late opening season, generally the big northerns were already in deeper water by the time the season opened. At least in Southern MN.

I’m going to assume you have some knowledge about fishing for northerns but I’ll give a couple of the techniques I use and some tips on what I look for when fishing northerns in the fall.

As far as northern pike fishing lures goes I liked a large red daredevle, a fluorescent orange and gold daredevle, a magnum floating rapala, musky lures like a suick or a musky spinner. Big lures were good lures and still are under the right circumstances. However I will say that he majority of my big northerns have come on bait and not northern pike lures.

Hunting history plus hunting and disease

January 14th, 2010 by author

There are many possibilities for hunters to get sick. Many critics consider these aspects to be nature’s defense mechanisms towards human interference. Whatever the case may be, care must be taken when outdoors to avoid these diseases and problems.

Just a little poison Ivy or Poison oak is more than enough. While this article is about disease you may get I don’t think that dangerous plants can go unmentioned. Know what you are walking in and how to recognize dangerous plants in the area you plan on hunting.

There are many precautions one can take to avoid getting sick in the outdoors. Attention must be paid at all times to the surroundings and to the natural habitat in which the hunt is taking place. Read more about hunting and disease

Man has been hunting animals such as deer and buffalo for the purposes of food, clothing and shelter for a very long time. Hunting actually predates the civilized world as we know it today and there are many archaeological discoveries that confirm this fact in hunting history.

An Asian spearhead has been carbon dated as being over 16,000 years old and there is some evidence that we used larger game as food as much as 2 million years ago. That doesn’t seem likely to me but I suppose it’s not impossible. Archaeologists think it’s the case, tho.

The most likely weapons first used were probably rocks thrown to kill small game with hunting spears coming soon after. Easy to sharpen a long piece of wood and make the point. Also a very effective close in weapon that could bring down large animals.

Some of our earliest ancestors also used running down animals to get their food. Animals may be faster than men but a determined man could run down almost anything. They just plain wore the animal out until it couldn’t run to get away and then they killed it. Now you might think that’s far fetched but hunting this way is still used in some parts of Southern Africa, today.

Carp Fishing Rods

January 6th, 2010 by author

Carp is mostly identified as a freshwater fish. With the prevalence of fishing activities, carp has been introduced to many parts of the world where carp fishing has emerged. In engaging in the sport, one has to have the necessary carp fishing equipment such as carp fishing rods, reels, lines, hooks, and baits.
When it comes to fishing equipment however, you need to determine what rods or baits are appropriate to use.

Carps are big and violent when angry, bursting off a hundred miles an hour whenever you try to reel them in. Put on the brakes and get yourself a good fishing rod in your favor. What you need is a decent shock absorbing rod which has a design that enables the full resistant of the carp to be taken up, providing you greater control over a reel fight. A carp fishing bait is also necessary such as homemade doughball and canned corn to snatch up your freshwater fish.

Other useful carp fishing rods are those with back bones whenever it got snagged between weeds and stuff. Modern fishing rods are categorized accordingly by its light, medium, and heavy size features and reeling power. Fishing for carps can be difficult as they are non-domesticated sea creatures. However, carp fishing is fun and is popular among anglers in the United States and Europe.

Learn about coarse fishing tackle here today as well!

You can go for decorative wine glass holders or any kind of design finish that you want as long as they will serve your purpose best.

Hope Arkansas motels and Lake Preston SD motels

December 28th, 2009 by author

The motels in Hope Arkansas are great but my very favorite motel and the only one I recommend of all the Hope, Akansas motels is the Relax Inn & Suites. It’s located directly off of exit 31 on Interstate 30. I’ve stayed many nights there and it’s a nice place and has, as far as I’m concerned, the best rates in town.

Tina and her husband are the owners and are very nice people. They will go way out of their way to see that you are happy and have what you need to make your stay the best you could possibly have. They not only met my expectations for motels, they greatly exceeded my expectations and it’s been that way since I started staying there.

The rooms are quite large and in good shape. Lots of storage space, a table with arm chairs, naturally a TV, microwave and refrigerator. The dressing area and bathroom are also very nice. I’m quite comfortable there. Oops, I forgot, they also have FREE wireless internet. Lol, hard to forget that as that’s why I stayed the first night.

We cater to fishermen and hunters because we love them is the motto of Lake Preson, SD motels.

We have many different motel room offerings including plain rooms, connected rooms, kitchenettes, a bunk house that will sleep up to 6-8 people and if you need it a whole house that can sleep up to 18 people per night. All at a very reasonable rate. All rooms have Phone, AC and Cable TV.

There is a fish cleaning room for you to use and a freezer where your fish can be frozen for the trip home. There is plenty of room for parking for boats in our large motel lot. If you fish eastern South Dakota and need a place to stay give us a call but call early because when the fish are biting good the motel is frequently full.

Northern pike techniques and walleye fishing techniques

December 28th, 2009 by author

Gone fishing – that’s where I usually was. In the fall it was gone to fish for walleyes and northerns. Anything else we caught was an accident. Here another of the tips or northrn pike techniques for newbies to catch big northerns.

One day my dad heard the northerns were biting on a small, hard to get to, out of the way, little lake that was back in the middle of a cow pasture. The road to the fishing lake was more of a trail and it’s a good thing I had a pickup as my car wouldn’t have made it back in there.

We were the only people there and I picked a spot on a small point where an arm of water that wandered back into the pasture started. It was fall and I figured the northers might be going into the shallows on the arm to bask in the sun and then come back to the deeper water to feed.

This walleye fishing article is a guest article. It’s pretty good walleye info and it’s also obvious the person is from Minnesota. Lol, the walleye fishing lake that’s the walleye capital of Minnesota is Mille Lacs. I’ve fished it hundreds of times for walleyes. For many years it was known as the dead sea but after some radical new fishing rules walleye fishing is now really hot. Anyway, here’s the walleye fishing techniques article.

Fishing is a sport that most people have tried at least once in their lives. It seems that no matter where you live there is some type of fishing available; whether it is freshwater, deep sea, stream or pond. The techniques that are used vary greatly, as well as the equipment that is needed. The equipment and techniques depend upon the species that is being fished. My husband and I do a great deal of freshwater fishing. I love the action of fishing for pan fish and bass, but you cannot beat walleye fishing for the great tasting fillets.

Beginner golf lesson guides

December 17th, 2009 by author

Golf can be a tricky sport to master for the beginning golfer. Keeping the correct posture, leg position, holding the club, and turning your body, is vital to being able to play a fulfilling round of golf. The beginner is better off getting the basics down before even seeing the green. A beginner golf lesson guide, or ebook, can be exactly what he or she needs.

Since private lessons with an instructor can be pretty expensive, an electronic guide can be the only affordable way to learn from a golf teaching professional. These guides walk through the absolute basics, all the way up to intermediate. Study these before you hit the range, and you will get a head start on your golfing buddies, and be on your way to the perfect golf swing.

Dog health symptoms and what to look out for

December 13th, 2009 by author

Just like humans, pets can get ill or injured from time to time. The difference is that they do not talk and have to rely on other forms of communication to let their owner know that something is wrong. If you own a dog it is therefore important to a look out for certain dog health symptoms.

Looking for changes in behaviour is one of the most effective ways of noticing if your dog is ill or injured in some ways. Remember, they can’t talk but they sure can communicate. Uncharacteristic barking and growling in presence of other people can be one such change. Just like humans, if something is irritating you it can eat up your patience.

It is important to be extra present minded and empathetic with your pet from time to time, to spot the subtle symptoms that can be signs of something that your veterinarian should have a closer look at.

Harry Potter Party Supplies, Announcements and Invitations

December 6th, 2009 by author

If you are planning a fun upcoming event like a birthday party or wedding, consider a theme party. Harry Potter is a popular character and you can easily find Harry Potter party supplies and game ideas online. If you need to kill a lot of time (as in an overnight party for children) outdoor games of Quidditch can help burn off energy and indoors you can watch a Harry Potter movie (or two… how many can you stand!?!) Be sure to send out fun party announcements and invitations that are in keeping with the theme and style. Perhaps assign people to a different “House” and have them come dressed in a different color so you know where the Slitherins are at any given time.

Parties are meant to be fun, so don’t make it too competitive. Try to give your young guests a chance to use their imagination in a rich party fantasy world made possibly by the Harry Potter books.

This is how to build muscle fast

October 26th, 2009 by author

When it comes to learning how to build muscle fast, nothing beats a good old fashioned barbell. There are supplements to help give you that cut effect like chromium picolinate, but bottom line is, you have to do the heavy lifting to get the results. The key is to lift every day even if you do not want to. Don’t overdo it, because if you do, you will be too sore for the next day especially if you are just starting out.

Dog Training Biting And Your Pet

October 23rd, 2009 by author

The statistics on injuries because of dog bites is becoming alarming.

This is more so because most dog owners do not make it a point of duty to train their pets to inhibit their biting instincts.

Mouthing, nipping, biting, are all natural instincts to a dog. We as humans cannot take it away from them, but what we can do is to train them on how to hold back from biting under certain circumstances. That is nothing but ‘biting inhibiting’ and all we need are the dog training biting skills.

Dog training biting is a subject covered by every dog training eBook, and can even be found on most all ‘How to’ websites.

Caribbean Pirate Costume Details

October 11th, 2009 by author

You know that wearing a pirates of the caribbean costume is going to be a ton of fun this year. That’s because you have paid attention to all the details that go into making your costume unique.

It’s not enough to just wear an eye patch. You’ve got to really get into it. Your style of hat should go with the tone of the costume, as well as your sword, knives, and pistols. Some would rather wear a skull wrap with the skull and crossbones on it. That’s a little more informal and raggedy than a spiffy tri-cornered hat with a feather in it, which would go with a more formal captain’s embroidered jacket.

Women especially can really dress it up or down. Sometimes women pirates are trying to stow away and try to pass as a man altogether. Otherwise they can really play up their sassy feminity with short skirts and high heeled boots. A jewel handled knife or pistol strapped to their thigh is the perfect detailed pirate touch.

I am not a collector, but I have a lot of them from around the world. Shells are widely collected, traded and appreciated for their beauty and rarity. Exploring Writing

September 5th, 2009 by author

Learning how to write, and to write well, may come naturally to some and may prove harder for others. Even seasoned writers regularly devote their time to reading books by other authors they admire, and consistently work at honing their craft. For writing is a skill like any other, and requires the same care, dedication and adherence to certain rules like any other art form.

People who are learning how to write have many reasons for doing so. There are numerous instances in which writing is necessary and important, such as writing academic papers or drafting a concept paper in a job. Others may wish to be better at penning a letter or writing about their travels to friends. Some kinds of writing are more specific and warrant a certain adeptness of style and form. For example, writing novels, short stories, poetry or journalistic pieces.

All kinds of writing can be learned, and the quality of writing is normally directly proportionate with how much time and effort is put into the piece. Revising and editing are crucial, as is having a clear structure and main thesis of your piece. For a news story, having an angle and a ‘hook’ to your article is critical; for novel fiction writing, having a strong story with vivid characters and an engaging conflict will attract readers; for poetry, the ability to draw up lyrical, universal emotions in a sparse and sensitive style are important. In every instance, successful authors have rarely picked up a pen for the first time, but have gone through the arduous process of learning how to write.

If one is casually looking to improve upon their writing skills, my suggestion is that they devote more time to reading. Reading books that are well written and interesting will increase your vocabulary and give you good examples of writing. Try to avoid the ‘airport trash’ books and look to more respected authors in the genre you are interested in. This is not to say that you should model your style on another author, but their attention to detail and their flare for storytelling may help in learning how to write better.
