How To Find Good Fishing Lakes

December 1st, 2008 by author

We like to remember things that we liked with rose tinted glasses so I don’t know if my memory is distorted by time, but it seems to me that there were many more fishing lakes when I was a kid than there are now. I don’t remember having to plan out lake fishing trips. I know that my father and my grandfather handled the details, but I can’t help but think that it was simply a matter of packing up the fishing tackle, heading out to the lake, and going to work. Our fishing trips were always pretty spontaneous and impromptu, and we went lake fishing all over the state of Michigan.
Don’t get me wrong, like at the present time there were some fishing lakes that were better than others. Lake Michigan fishing, for example, was always some of the best, but you had to know what you were doing. You needed excellent fishing equipment and a good deal of strength. I remember that my dad would always have to help me reel in the bigger catches for fear of me losing my fishing rod.

You Can Get Beach House Rentals Within Budget

December 1st, 2008 by author

When the hot weather hits many people decide to go to the beaches and to cabins by lakes and this is the reason for the booming time for resort owners and camp ground managers in the summer time. Even the airlines fill most of the flights during this time. Our children have grown up and left home so we do not have to work around school schedules. Because of this we have found that if we plan our vacations for the early part of May or the end of September we still have great weather, but we do not have to contend with the crowds or the peak season prices.
For the past couple of years we have gone to the east coast for our vacations. We have found that we can stay for longer periods of time and have nicer accommodations because things are less expensive. We have looked into beach house rentals for years. We have always seen these great properties, but never thought we could afford to stay at them. Now that we plan our vacations during off peak seasons we can afford to get the beach house rentals within our budget. We may spend a bit more than we would for a hotel, but because we have the entire house we can cook our own meals and spend less money on eating out.

Cross Country Travel Is Enjoyable

November 26th, 2008 by author

Whether you are taking cross country motorcycle tours, or just a trip down to a relative’s house in San Francisco, traveling across the country can be a big adventure. I have taken dozens of cross country travel trips, and each one has been different. When I was in college, it was a pretty casual thing. We would clamber into my friend’s beaten up old Ford, head out, deciding where we were going on the way there. That was it but looking back on it, it seems a very foolish thing to do. So many things could have gone wrong after all, and we took no precautions in our planning. Yet back then, we felt carefree. Cross country traveling was just a way to unwind from the semester, and we would do it every chance we had my cross country travels have become a lot more sophisticated.
You see, I am currently employed as a travel writer, and my cross country travel gives me ample fodder for my books. I was actually inspired to take up this career by a road trip that went wrong. A travel book that we were using seemed to be up to date, but it actually had some bad information. There were whole towns that were listed in the cross country travel guide that in fact didn’t exist.

Hiking Shoes And Finding The Right Ones For Your Needs

November 25th, 2008 by author

If you are one of those people who love the outdoors then you inevitably end up going on a hike now and again. This is something that is very good for the body, and also very good for the soul. It can also be hard on the body, especially if you aren’t used to the activity level and if you aren’t wearing the right kind of hiking shoes. When you are going for a long hike, or even a long walk, you have to have the right kind of hiking shoes or your feet will never forgive you. And ultimately this could make the difference between a pleasant hike and giving up even before you have started.
If you skip the hiking shoes and wear sneakers, you might be okay for a while. Once you have gone more than a few miles however, your feet are going to be hurting. Not only that, you may find that your ankles hurt too, or even worse, you may easily twist an ankle if you step the wrong way. Hiking is usually done on uneven ground, and unlike sneakers, hiking shoes are made to help keep your feet as comfortable and as stable as they can be under those circumstances. When buying hiking shoes, there are many places to go and many brands from which to choose. Some cost more than others, and the cost might represent how well they will cushion and protect your feet.

Making Crafts For Kids Safe

November 20th, 2008 by author

When the days turn dark early, the air turns cold, and the snow starts to fall, I always pull out winter crafts for kids to keep them occupied. A lot of parents out there neglect kids crafts, figuring that they get enough of that in the schools. They might get craft supplies for their kids and allow them to do work on their own, but many adults believe that their dignity is above working on artistic projects themselves.
Crafts and hobbies are not only fun, but they are a great way to bring families together. They encourage creativity, and they allow kids to try out new things. It is not enough to allow your children to use crafts for kids themselves. Getting the best crafts for kids is mostly a matter of trial and error. Obviously, some of it depends on age, but some of it also depends on the kids individual temperaments. Some kids crafts work well for everyone at a certain age. For example, young children all love to glue glitter to paper. At a certain age, all girls and some boys love to make friendship bracelets.

You might probably wonder why so many aquarium enthusiasts are crazy about purchasing Florida tropical fish. Well, there are actually good reasons for that. One of those reasons is that Florida tropical fish offer the most colorful creatures that are perfect to display in aquariums. The “Bugeye” Sprite - A British Classic Sportscar

October 26th, 2008 by author

Dennis Healey designed the “bugeye” Sprite in the mid 1950’s. It was called the “frogeye” Sprite in the UK. 48,978 cars were built by the British Motor Corporation from 1958 to 1961. The original Sprite design was for a low-cost sports car to be the successor of the highly modified Austin 7’s that were raced in Britain and Europe at the time. The cost was kept down by BMC when they used many parts from the Austin and Morris cars they made. The Sprite was released just prior to the Monarco Grand Prix in 1958.

The Mark I Sprite had no separate chassis. It was the first sports car to use integrated construction, whereby the metal skin panels of the body carry the loads normally carried by the chassis. To keep the costs down there were no outside handles on the doors and no trunk lid. The spare wheel was stored under the rear deck, and to get it out the seats needed to be tilted forward.

The famous “Bugeye” look, with the headlights standing on the front of the bonnet was not intended. The original design was for these lights to swing down into a recess when turned off. Because of the need to cut costs, this tilt mechanism was deleted and the unique “bugeye” look was born. Would the car have enjoyed such cult status if the “bugeye” look had not prevailed?

A slightly improved version of the 948cc Austin A35 engine was fitted to the first Sprite. It produced just 43bhp with two 1 1/8” SU carburetors. The rear suspension was by quarter-elliptic leaf springs and lever-arm shockers. The leaf springs also acted as locators for the rear axle. The front suspension of wishbones and coil springs came from the Austin A35, as did the rack and pinion steering.

The first Sprite was entered in many major rallies and races and competed quite successfully. Many private owners took advantage of the fact that the car was relatively cheap and easy to modify and raced the car extensively and successfully. There were many exotic special models produced by private firms, the Sebring Sprite being one of the better known. An original model could reach 83 mph and accelerate to 60 mph in 20.5 seconds. Sprites are still raced by enthusiastic owners all around the world.

How To Ensure That coarse fishing Is Fun, Relaxing And Fruitful

October 24th, 2008 by author

Coarse fishing is an activity that a lot of people love and many anglers have in fact even been fishing from their early days – perhaps because their families too were avid coarse fishermen. There is a certain excitement to catching fish that can make anyone become addicted to fishing and when it concerns coarse fishing chances are that you too have already become hooked on it for life. Of course, it pays to be patient because this is a virtue that helps you get more out of this form of fishing – and, all other forms of fishing as well.
However, even if you do not consider yourself particularly patient, you may find that coarse fishing will bring out this trait.

October 24th, 2008 by author

Fifteen years ago, nobody knew anything about digital photography and we were still loading rolls of film into our camera to be shot then developed at the local one-hour photo shop. Today, digital cameras are the hottest selling cameras on the market and some manufacturers are planning to get out of the film camera business altogether. There are a few reasons why digital photography has become such an important part of photography and why many people that practice professional photography embrace this new art today…

The Austin Healey 100-4 - a Classic Sportscar

October 23rd, 2008 by author

The “100″ name comes from the famed designer Donald Healey, who named it after the fact that this was one of the few cars of the era which could maintain 100 mph (160 km/h). The Austin-Healey 100-4 built between 1953 and 1956 by Jensen Motors for the British Motor Corporation.

The first 100-4 Healey, the BN1, was equipped with a 2660cc engine producing 90 bhp and was fitted with manual 3 speed transmission with overdrive on second and top. It could accelerate to 100 miles per hour in 11.2 seconds and had a top speed of 106 miles per hour

The later model, the BN2 was produced starting in 1955. It had a 4 speed transmission. A 100M version was also produced with a 110 brake horse power motor and twin 1 ¾ inch SU carburetors and a modified front suspension.

Acoustic electric guitar as a wonderful gift

September 23rd, 2008 by author

After reading about the acoustic electric guitar I wasn’t a bit surprised that my friend had his eye on the instrument. I figured that the Washburn model would suit his needs (especially because he mentioned that specific name). The great thing is that this acoustic electric guitar is really
affordable.

I was going to split the cost for the musical instrument with my friend but why should I share the glory? The Washburn guitar is a steal at less than 150 bucks. It took no time for me to save up enough cash to make the purchase and I knew that he would love the gift.

When the Washburn acoustic electric guitar arrived I was thrilled. The craftsmanship is outstanding and the instrument gleamed in the light.

They also do not come across as particularly aggressive animals so as a diver you can really enjoy the encounter without feeling threatened by the shark. Visit Shark Cage Diving

What Do Video Game Ratings?

September 10th, 2008 by author

When I was a kid, they didn’t have video game ratings. They didn’t really need them either. You see the graphics were not very good and the games were not very sophisticated. A video game rating system would have been unnecessary. After all, there was nothing excessively violent or graphic to rate!

• The Great White Shark has two invisible ears which are hidden in their skull in the form of a sensor.

When You Shop For A Guide To Plants, How Do You Choose?

September 5th, 2008 by author

Unless you’re looking for an encyclopedic plant reference, choosing a guide to plants requires that you narrow your focus, so that the information suits your purpose. Even encyclopedic references rarely cover all of the aspects of plant life and the detail of information won’t serve a specialized search for knowledge.

Obviously, a planting guide won’t have detailed information on rose horticulture, while a plant guide on companion planting won’t have much on garden design. Let’s take a look at the various types of plant guides and the main purpose each type serves.

The rooms are named for former owners and individuals who were significant to the history of the home. For many years, the home was very prominent in the city of St Augustine. Then, in the 1940s, the house was converted into apartments. In 1984, the structure was lovingly and extensively restored to its original grandeur, fulfilling a dream of creating Carriage Way.

The Great Debate about Cooking Grills

August 18th, 2008 by author

The biggest debate about BBQ cooking grills is whether to choose propane or charcoal. You can find numerous pros and cons to each side, and quite often those who are proponents of one type can be fairly vociferous in their opinions. The only way to determine which you prefer is to experiment. If you’re like a lot of people however, you won’t notice that much of a difference in the way the food tastes once it is taken off the grill. Because there are so many varieties of cooking grills available, it can be a little overwhelming to try and decide which is right for you.

Sample the food at restaurants and friends’ homes. Ask them which kind of grill they use; that might help in making a decision. Do your research and take your time shopping for a grill. Before you know it, you’ll be happily grilling in your backyard and enjoying the rewards of your new grill.

Exciting work from home travel opportunity!

August 16th, 2008 by author

A work from home travel opportunity is making an impact on both the internet business world and the $7 trillion travel industry. Being the next Baby Boomer market this predominently wealthy generation is causing 3 major trends creating possibly the biggest market shift of our time.

  • The Shift to the Internet - “Brick and mortar” travel agencies continue to decrease rapidly in favor of more efficient, economical and convenient internet booking engines. The Baby Boomers are definitely internet users, are comfortable buying online and when asked how they plan to spend their retirement they almost always respond with travel, travel, travel.
  • Word of Mouth Marketing - 80% of all vacations are estimated as being from a referal. When you come back from vacation the first thing you want to do is tell everyone about it proving that word of mouth works. Now you can get paid for it!
  • Home Based Business - Home based businesses are the future. The government continues to setup many tax advantages and programs to promote this trend as families begin to realize that they need to take their future in their own hands. With an unstable economy at best, a failing social security system and health care becoming completely unaffordable the time for a new way of thinking is here.

A new work from home travel opportunity is being named a source for a “recession-proof income” and just might be an answer for you.

5 Things You Didn’t Know About Sharks

August 13th, 2008 by author

1. Only four types of sharks present a large threat to humans. There are more than 360 species of them, but only the great white, bull, tiger and the oceanic whitetip sharks are known for biting humans. These attacks are provoked more often than not, and sometimes even mistaken! There are a few more species which have attacked humans, but they rarely cause death.

2. Sharks only bite…sometimes! A shark cannot eat several times in a row like we can. Oftentimes a shark will bite something to check if it’s worth eating, much like people checking the back of the box for price and nutrition! If it senses that what it’s biting isn’t worth the digestive time, it releases the person, animal or object and goes off to find better food. Talk about discriminating!

3. Sharks may be afraid of dolphins! We’ve heard tales of dolphins protecting humans from sharks. An experiment was also done by Mythbusters where a mechanical dolphin was placed near a seal cutout and raw bait, while a great white shark was feeding. Instead of going for either target, the shark opted to stay away! He only went for it when the dolphin was removed. Scientists still can’t explain why, so don’t try to rent out a dolphin just yet.

4. Sometimes, sharks don’t need a mate to reproduce. There has been a documented case of a shark giving birth without male contact for three years. The newborn had no parental DNA, which makes it a close copy of its mother! This may be a last resort if there are no males around, but since they can’t evolve because of that, it may cause them to become extinct.

5. Sharks are worshipped as gods! Hawaii, that group of islands out in the Pacific Ocean, has more than its share of sharks. It’s not surprising that they model gods out of these creatures. These gods are said to be able to transform from human to shark at will! Many of them are said to be originally human. A common type of story about these gods goes like this: the shark in human form warns beach-goers about sharks in the water. They ignore him, and are later eaten by the human who warned them, who had turned into a shark. When someone warns you about sharks in the water, follow it!
