March 3rd, 2010 by author

Choosing Swimming Pool Vacuums is no easier than choosing new vacuum cleaner for the home. Like most products, the more the demand, the more businesses and manufactures start producing and competing in the market. This is good for consumer choice of course, and it also helps to keep costs down, but the downside is that it makes choosing the right model far from simple, and potentially overwhelming. I was recently in an adverse weather situation. In this weather emergency, my power went out at my home. I spent a few minutes trying to find candles but could find matches. I then looked for flashlights and finally found them after five minutes. I wasn’t exactly happy when I realized that the bulbs in the flashlights were dead, ouch. Save on electric bill with a free energy device

February 25th, 2010 by author

There has been much debate about what is often called “free” energy – energy that can supposedly, with the right technology, be drawn straight out of the atmosphere, and in very abundant supply. The debates are about whether the stuff actually exists or not, what it would actually cost were it to be harnessed, and if it does exist is it truly as abundant and efficient as it’s being made out to be by proponents of research and development into this potential alternative energy source.

When one hears the phrase “free energy device”, one might be hearing about one of several different concepts. This might mean a device for collecting and transmitting energy from some source that orthodox science does not recognize; a device which collects energy at absolutely no cost; or an example of the legendary perpetual motion machine. Needless to say, a perpetual motion machine-a machine which drives itself, forever, once turned on, therefore needing no energy input ever again and never running out of energy-is impossible.

Are we not sick of paying our recurring electricity bills month on month and save on electric bill. There is an alternative solution that will set us free forever, yes for lifetime. If any of these following mentioned factors suit us,

Do we live in a semi urban place having access to one acre or more (4000 sq m) land, as a part of our home, ranch, farmhouse or field or our community area exceeds one acre. Better if we are remotely located. Yes. We are aware of the expense and the difficulty involved in getting the power cable to our home via difficult terrain. Do we want to be free of recurring cycle of electricity bill payments. Instead would we want the service provider to pay us for giving back some energy back to them and thats how to save on electric bill.

Yes again this practice is much prevalent and is completely legalized with proper agreement between the individual and the regional electricity boards.

Most individuals entering into newly made homes can have wireless units put in as the home is being architected, because it will cost quite a sum of money to get the wiring taken care of.

Solar Powered Generators

February 24th, 2010 by author

For the past decade, green energy has been becoming more and more popular. One of the ways of taking advantage of the trend is to switch to solar powered generators instead of ones that run on fossil fuels.

A 400 w solar power generator can generate electricity from sunlight; it has a battery bank to store the solar energy. It also has an inverter to convert DC to AC electricity so that it can be utilized. If this power generator is mounted on a trailer, the cost of operation and maintenance is quite low.

There is also a wireless solar power system which is 400w. It is like an inverter and can supply a good amount of electricity to any machine when there is a failure of electrical power. If it is used with wireless transmitters, it creates its own video surveillance system for remote video monitoring.

Feel Alive Again

The choices in steam shower units today seem endless and for good reason as they have become extremely popular and best of all, they are easy to install. Here is a rough idea of what needs to happen before you start enjoying you own steam shower room. All units will require a level base so it will be stable and allow proper water drainage. The door is normally the first wall that gets connected to the base unit. Once you have the shower steam door in place it’s as simple as grabbing a drill and installing the self tapping screws that will come with the kit. After you complete this step you just need to add the rest of the walls in the same way as the door.

Of course there will be more detailed instructions with your steam shower unit. If you hate to read directions like some people I suggest letting someone else do the assembly as it is very important to get this right. Not all steam units are assembled in the same way so you are better off to grab a coffee, sit back and read the instructions before getting started.

Designing with pavers

February 6th, 2010 by author

Pavers are decorative and are used for pedestrian and vehicular areas. Pavers also happen to be 4 times stronger than a poured concrete slab. Overall, designing pavers into your landscape or hardscape plan is simple. Pavers come in a large array of sizes, textures, colors and shapes, which ensures there is absolutely an option available that will mesh well with your big plan. Designing with pavers is fun, and will keep you busy. Following some very basic design guidelines will ensure that you will be completely satisfied with your new patio pavers, walkway pavers, driveway or pool deck pavers.

Your driveway pavers or patio pavers do not need to be laid in the same pattern as each other, switching it up creates a custom appearance and can put emphasis on different areas. Pavers are available in circle, half circle or even fan patterned kits to create attractive, ornamental accents in your hardscape. A running bond walkway can lead you to a wide open patio laid in a random pattern. This will let you know that you have arrived in the main entertaining area and it’s time to relax.

Using texture will add character to your entertaining areas. Using lightly distressed to heavily tumbled stones will create an old world charm that lends well to country french, Tuscan or ranch style homes. Smooth surfaced with beveled edge pavers will go with anything, including modern or southwestern style homes. You should, however, consider the location and purpose for the pavers when selecting a texture. Stones with narrower joints should be used in steeply sloped patio pavers or driveway pavers to avoid excessive sand washout. Smooth stones with narrow joints should be used around pool decks. This will be a little less abrasive to bare feet and will also reduce the chances of tracking sand into the pool. All pavers are skid / slip resistant, so putting smooth surfaced stone is not a concern.

When choosing a color, or colors, keep in mind the the house color and sort through the paver options that are similar in tone with your exterior walls. Pavers look great against any surface; a clay-brick color compliments stone or wood siding and tans, light greys and brown blend well with stucco or painted surfaces. You can also go bold and choose a sharply darker or lighter solid color. Doing this can create vivid contrasts to really define the nature of your hardscaping. Blended colors are typically recommended, and for many good reasons. Blended color seem to look for natural, after all, the majority of natural stones offer variegated color blends. Blended pavers help tie in multiple surrounding colors, it’s good to try to tie in the roof line color, and accentual colors from window or door framings, and of course, dominant colors of your garden.

Designing With Pavestones

January 21st, 2010 by author

Pavestones now allow you to create beautiful, eye catching, yet durable hardscapes around your home and garden. Pavestones have come a long way from when the Romans used them to create the first roads that helped the expansion of the Roman Empire. The pavestones used over 5,000 years ago were not decorative like they are today. They were made of natural rock or lava rock and were rectangular or octagonal in shape. Today, pavestones come in hundreds of shapes, colors, textures and sizes.

Creating your dream driveway, walkway, patio or pool deck is made easy when using decorative interlocking pavestones. Pavestones are offered in solid or blended colors that can easily be mixed and blended to highlight different color accents in and around your home. A popular design feature is using a darker paving stone to border the rest of the paved area. This will standout and give your hardscape a truly custom appearance.

Pavestones are manufactured in many different shapes and sizes to allow for flexibility of design. Pavestone circular patterns are used regularly to highlight entry points or center points of a patio or driveway. Some packages are available with 4 or 5 stones to allow for custom, elegant patterns that will make your pavestone installation look as rich as possible.

Pavestones are also available in different textures. A smooth surfaced stone, typically called an ‘Antique Cobble’ is great for a modern or contemporary style. This will leave you with a defined joint line that helps to create a stand out pavement. A tumbled stone have a weathered look on all sides of the pavestone, making it look aged and seasoned. These stones are considered a designer type stone and are often seen in pricier homes. The tumbled pavestone is an excellent selection for just about any application and will not disappoint.

Pavestones are now being used to construct steps, barbecues, fire pits and walls. Since their look is so appealing, designers and contractors have been getting creative in the way they use pavestones. Overlaying them over concrete, using them as a veneer over walls, or stacking to create small cheek walls are all being done.

Installing Paving Stone in California

January 21st, 2010 by author

Installing paving stones in southern California will not be the same as installing paving stones in northern California. The difference in the installation process is simply because of the rainfall amounts and the native soil types. In northern California, the rainfall is much more than in southern California which will require a thicker base preparation. In southern California the standard base preparation for a typical residential paving stone installation is 4 inches. Usually a geo-textile fabric is not required since the native soils are generally hard with minimal clay. In northern California, where it rain’s much more, a typical driveway paving stone installation will require 6 to 8 inches of sub-base preparation.

There are some areas in southern California that have high clay contents, which expands and retracts as it gets wet and then dries. This causes swelling and instability beneath the paving stones. In these scenarios, it is important to excavate deeper and install more road base. It is also recommended to install a geo-textile fabric over the native soil, before laying the road base down. This will prevent the road base from getting mixed into softened clay when it saturated, reducing the potential of a sagging paving stone installation.

When you’ve completed your excavation, road base (typically a mixture of ¾” – gravel and dirt) will be installed and graded for drainage runoff. Road base should be compacted in 2 inches. The top of your base layer will be 3.5 or 4.5 inches below the final grade of the paving stones, depending on the paving stone thickness.

When your base is finished, you are ready to install your sand. The Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institution suggests using a plaster or washed masonry sand. Once this sand is screeded evenly to a thickness of approximately 1″ you are ready to snap lines and prepare to install the paving stones.

You must install an edge restraint in the areas of the border that do not abut a foundations or some sort of natural restraint. The edge restraint will hold your paving stone border in place and act as the picture frame that holds your pave stones together. There are plastic or metal edger’s that you can install at the edge of the paving stones that stake into the ground with 9 – 12 inch nails or stakes. What I’ve found to be the best edge restraint is to trench along the field stones the entire depth of the base, if you installed 4 inches of base and 1 inch of sand, you would trench a total of 5 inches adjacent to the field paving stones. Mix some concrete and fill the trench ½ full. Then install a piece of #3 rebar horizontally in the trench and fill in the rest of the trench with concrete. Lay your border stones into the wet concrete, tamp with a rubber mallet and allow it to set. The concrete edge restraint will hold your border stones down and will also act as a retaining wall for the sub-base material so it does not mix laterally with any native soils.

Finish up your paving stone installation by spreading a layer of angular, course sand over the paving stones. Use a vibrating compactor to vibrate the sand into the joints of the paving stones. This will take several passes with the plate compactor.

Attic Foam Insulation for Beginners

January 15th, 2010 by author

The latest and greatest thing in home building these days is the usage of attic foam insulation on your home. It has two benefits. It does a great job of insulating your spaces without taking up extra space and it seals off your home not only from air leakage but bugs and other pests that might enter into cracks. I highly recommend checking out the insulation and seeing if you can afford to hire someone to put it in your attic to completely seal off that space.

The design of a handheld anemometer is very impressive. It gives the exact wind reading. It not only uses the wind to make the readings, but also uses the sound waves. It aids in finding of the facts through laser beams and measurement of thermal energy. The anemometer measures the speed of wind. Nevertheless, the modern handheld anemometer measures the various aspects of wind. It includes temperature, pressure and humidity. Weather stations usually use anemometers for carrying out metrological functions. There are five types of anemometers. They are windmill anemometer, sonic anemometer, cup anemometer, hot wire anemometer, and laser Doppler anemometer.

A handheld anemometer is famous as personal anemometer. It is only few inches in length and width. It measures the wind perfectly within percentage5. Most of the instrument calculates wind speed in km/h, m/s, and mph. Even the sudden variation of direction and strong wind cannot affect it. Some handheld anemometers have the extra features that make it more attractive and tempting. Some of them are waterproof and are capable of floating in water and do not easily break.

Many can get benefit from the personal anemometer. It is very convenient instrument. It is the best for any one who needs wind reading. Few people who get benefit from this kind of instruments are mostly wind surfers, climbers, engineers and populace who take kite flying seriously. Both athletes and professionals can get many benefits from this instrument. As the device is very handy, weather watchers without any difficulty can decide from their own weather forecasts boldly.

Hygrometer is great for measuring wind but for heat you could use a heat camera (värmekamera) as a temperaturgivare.

Gun control and residential security systems

January 14th, 2010 by author

Residential security is the same as saying home security, to most people. I would expect someone selling residential security systems to be an expert in that field and not an expert in office security. I’m curious what people think about when they see “Home Security” because it makes me think of a single family house. Residential security makes me think of apartments for some reason.

No matter what you call it, home or residential security, we all want it and are willing to pay for it. Everyone wants to feel safe in their home or residence. So what’s different about residential versus home security. Not a thing as far as I can tell. I suspect it’s an advertising thing and one phrase appeals to some customers and the other to different customers.

Nothing like a gun to ensure personal safety if the person carrying the gun knows how to use it. As much as it pains me to admit it I do know people who’d do more damage to themselves with a gun than they would to a robber or home intruder. These idiots are sometims used as arguements for gun control.

Guns are a tool. A piece of metal and plastic. Nothing more, nothing less. The problem isn’t guns, the problem is what people do with guns. Statistics show that homeowners are more likely to hurt themselves or some in the house than they are an intruder. So the call is to ban guns to protect idiots from themselves.

I have a different solution. Like all tools some training is required to use the tool correctly. Gun training should be mandatory in 4th or 5th grade in every school in the country. Yes, girls too.

Oh, come on, we, as a country are never going to give up our guns. Never! It just won’t happen. We may outlaw guns but no matter what we will never give up our guns. We also have the perfect excuse. They protect our freedom and our personal safety. The govt can’t do that even if they could somehow manage to confiscate all guns.

Home Security Systems

December 28th, 2009 by author

Security systems are available to protect practically everything these days. There are security systems to protect houses, businesses, cars, boats, motorcycles, computers and everything else you can think of. Even kids use security systems without realizing it as a bike lock is a simple security system.

Besides all of the things that can be protected with a security system there are sub categories within each system. Take a look at home security as an example. There are a ton of security firms that will provide your house with monitored security. Then under that there are more categories, burglar alarms, lighting systems, intrusion detection and more. It can be hard to decide just exactly what security system you need.

Then you can choose from a hard wired system or a wireless security system. IF I were building a new house I’d go with a wired security system with a battery backup just because you can save a bundle on home insurance and it adds value to the house when you want to sell it.

Home security is a personal responsibility and home security is something you should think about when buying your house. You consider the neighborhood because you want to live in a safe and secure neighborhood but few people consider home security beyond that when buying a house.

Most new home owners don’t think much about security until they move into the house. Most loans require the house to be insured and that covers you if someone gets hurt on your property or something gets stolen but it is not home security. Your home owners insurance generally comes into effect after you’ve been robbed, not before. Home owners insurance is not security against being robbed or hurt in your own home.

Factors Determining Solar Panel Heating

December 21st, 2009 by author

A number of factors determine how much energy you can generate from the use of solar panels. Depending on the area of the country you live in (e.g. the southwest part of the country), the number of solar panels on your roof, and the amount of sunlight you get – you may generate more than enough electricity for your heating needs. In this case you can use it for other needs.

Solar energy has become popular enough that you can find solar energy firms that specialize in installing solar panel heating devices and solar water heating panel in most mid sized to large cities.

Solar heating is not just for the home. While there’s relatively few companies that rely totally on solar power, more and more businesses are using solar heating in a supporting role in many of their buildings.

What Are The Benefits Of A Zanussi Dishwasher?

December 17th, 2009 by author

Many people think of a Zanussi dishwasher as a luxury electric appliance because lets face it, there’s nothing wrong with washing your dishes by hand. Whilst putting your dirty dishes into a machine that cleans them for you sounds very appealing, it’s not an essential requirement like a fridge is.

However, a lot of people don’t realise that there are many benefits of owning a Zanussi dishwasher other than the fact that you can be lazy. In today’s crazy world most people are working long hours and are constantly on the go. This means that any free time people do have, should be enjoyed doing the things they love. Washing dishes is unlikely to be on anyone’s list of things they like to do the most yet is something that needs to be done.

It is reported that using a dishwasher can save you up to three weeks of time in the space of a year. This is the equivalent to a long holiday, a few short breaks or a lot of days out with friends and family. If you believe that life is too short to spend standing by the kitchen sink, then a Zanussi dishwasher could become your new best friend.

Another major benefit of owning this electric appliance is the fact that a dishwasher can get your dishes a lot cleaner than hand washing can. How many times have you half – heartedly washed up your dinner dishes because it’s the last thing you feel be doing? Even if you’re pretty good with washing the dishes, using a dishwasher is much more hygienic because the washing is done at high temperatures and uses specially designed cleaning detergents.

One of the biggest advantages of using a dishwasher is the fact that believe it or not, they are more environmentally friendly than washing your dishes by hand. A product such as a Zanussi dishwasher is thought to use half the energy, one – sixth of the water and less soap than hand – washing an identical set of dirty dishes.

It is a common misconception that using a dishwasher isn’t very environmentally friendly, but this research proves just the opposite. This means that you can save money on your energy and water bills every month and help the environment at the same time.

Obviously, there are some factors to consider when using your Zanussi dishwasher to make these claims true. For example, if you’re only half filling it each time you run it, then this will end up using more water. Adopting a few common sense techniques such as only running it when it’s full will ensure you are using your dishwasher in the most effective manner.

If you are currently in the process of debating whether or not purchasing a dishwasher is the right thing for you, the above factors may help you to make up your mind. If the thought of the cost of purchasing this product is daunting for you, look online for voucher codes that enable you to get a discount on these products. Once you have your new dishwasher you will instantly be able to see the benefits of having more time, less washing up, potentially lower bills and doing your bit to help the environment.

Alternative Energy Resources

December 8th, 2009 by author

You know as well as I do that all the batteries you ever buy are going to fail and have to be replaced. Replacement batteries are big business and you can save a little money sometimes but for the most part batteries are expensive. So would you be interested in some tips, tricks and techniques to improve battery life and save money. Read on if you are.

All batteries will fail at some point, when they have been in use for longer periods of time. But premature battery failure is one of the main frustrations people face.

Common thinking is that turning devices off extends battery life, but what happens is the opposite. Devices consume more power when they are starting up, so turning them off is not such a good idea if they are going to be switched on frequently.

There are many different forms in which Alternative Energy Resources are available.

One of these is Solar Power. Solar power is driven by photovoltaic cells, and these are progressively getting less expensive and more advanced. Solar energy power can be used for electricity, heating, and making hot water. Solar energy produces no pollution, as its input comes completely from the sun’s rays. However, much more work still needs to be done in order for us to economically harness the sun’s energy. For the time being, the resource is a little too conditional, as storage batteries are needed to be used as backups in the evenings and on inclement days.

Wind Energy has become the most-invested-in (by private investors and governments together) alternative energy source for the time being. The great arrays of triple-bladed windmills are being placed all over as wind farms, to capture the motion of the wind and use its kinetic energy for conversion to mechanical or electrical energy. Of course, there is nothing new about the concept of a windmill for harnessing energy. Modern wind turbines are simply more advanced variations on the old theme. Of course, the drawback to wind energy is…what do you do when there is a calm, still day? Needless to say, during these times you can use the electric company for powering your home or office, or do the same as the solar in using storage batteries as backup.

Lift Your Mobility Scooter With A Platform Wheelchair Lift

December 6th, 2009 by author

There’s no doubt that riding around in a wheelchair isn’t always easy. One of the most challenging things is transporting the wheelchair or mobility scooter when you’re not actually riding it. Mobility scooters and electric wheelchairs are heavy and big. You may even need to get a wheelchair van or handicapped van of some kind to drive your chair around in. However, if you don’t have that, you can still take public transportation.

Even if you do have a wheelchair van, you still need a platform lift or wheelchair ramp to manage getting your mobility scooter or chair in and out of the car or van. A platform lift will carry you vertically up and down while seated in your chair or scooter. It is great for any change-of-elevation transport that is within a few feet of the ground. Platform wheelchair lifts are most common for vehicles, but they are also helpful on stairs or areas where a ramp is not practical or convenient.

If Insulating Your Home Obtain The Best Value

December 6th, 2009 by author

The usefulness of insulation and its protection properties is based on what is established as its R-Value. The solitary function of insulation material is to keep heat from flowing through it. The more heat the insulation stops, the higher the R-Value of that insulation.

For any given thickness, spray on insulation has a much higher R-value then does fiberglass batt insulation. So you can very easily say that with 2 inches of spray from your roof will be much better insulated than it would with 2 inches of fiberglass batt.
