The Effects Of Bullying

August 28th, 2008 by author

Do you know what to do about the effects of bullying?

Being bullied is a very stressful ordeal for children. Many bullying victims are reluctant to talk about their experiences making it even harder to help them. While it is possible for children to learn to ignore and not be bothered by bullying, they are usually stressed out when bullying attacks occur. The victims of bullies often loose self esteem, start having trouble in school, and withdraw from friends and activities. If it is not stopped and continues for long enough, children can suffer these problems permanently.

We protect our children in many ways but sometimes the effects of bullying slip by us.

Teach Your Kids To Say No To Drugs

August 21st, 2008 by author

No matter what you have done in your past, you don’t want your children to do drugs. Though your habits (if you had any) may be long behind you, you probably still think about them and regret some of the things that you did. Children are very bright, and it is hard at times to tell them one thing when you have done another. Don’t let that stop you from having frequent talks with them about how to say no to drugs and other things that can hurt them, and that might even shorten their young lives. You may feel like a hypocrite telling your child to say no to drugs when you did them on your own when you were younger.

Weight Loss Camps

August 18th, 2008 by author

There is nothing more depressing to an overweight adolescent than hearing people accusing him or her of being fat. I was not initially receptive to my parents talk of weight loss camps, needless to say. When I thought of a weight-loss teen camp, I pictured kids who were morbidly obese – way fatter than I was. I didn’t want to think of myself as heavy enough to require special treatment.

Giving Out Recognition And Special Awards

August 17th, 2008 by author

When my daughter finished kindergarten this year, each child got their own recognition awards. What I liked about this was that each child felt special, but they were truly being honored for some part of their personality. There were recognition awards for those children that learned the most, those that contributed the most, those that were most helpful, and those that came the furthest in the shortest time. Each award was deserved, so the children felt special for something they knew that they did. That is the right way to give out recognition and special awards at a younger age.
When it comes to older children, not all should get recognition awards if they have not earned them.

Ways To Control Anger

August 15th, 2008 by author

Anger control is often about mind over matter, but it is not always that easy. Some can talk themselves down by counting to ten and thinking about things, or by walking away and coming back at a later time. I know that when I think I need anger control is mostly when something wants to pop out of my mouth spontaneously. I have learned to stop the words from coming out at all. I then step away and think about it, only to find that I really don’t want to say it in the first place. This type of controlling anger has worked well for me in many cases, though it is not perfect.
Finding out more about anger in general, and what some of your specific triggers might be, can help you in your personal quest for anger control.

What Do You Mean By Conservative Politics? How About Liberal Politics?

July 28th, 2008 by author

In this election year, as with so many others, candidates have acquired certain labels according to their party. Democratic candidates are often labeled as “liberals” by their Republican opponents. Republican candidates are likewise dubbed “conservatives”. Such labels tend to ring certain bells with individual voters. Let’s take a look at what Webster’s has to say on the subject and see if we can find some real meaning worthy of the labels in reference to politics.
First, what is the definition of conservative? Webster’s says, as an adjective, conservative means tending to preserve established institutions, opposed to change, moderate or cautious.

Online Cancer Information

Another thing to consider when you are looking for cancer information is that this changes all the time. You might find something that is old, and is no longer valid. Check out the dates on the information to see how timely it is, and discard anything more than five years old. Information from within the last five years will be the best, but even that can be old. Research for cancer is ongoing, so something new might have disproved something once thought to be true.
You can also find books in the library that are full of cancer information, but as with online information, make sure you are reading something current.

Speed Reading Should Also Improve Understanding Of What Was Read

July 16th, 2008 by author

There is much talk about how speed reading can improve a reader’s life and even some claims that speed reading can improve a reader’s ability to soak up information at an amazing rate, making them more valuable to employers. While the ability to read faster may be beneficial for some, for others it is more a matter of improving comprehension of what they have read and also being able to retain the information they have received that will make a difference in both their work and personal life.On average, a person will read at the rate of about two words per second with typical comprehension and for most that will be fast enough. Taking a speed reading course may improve their reading speeds to four or even six words per second without any loss of retention as to the material. Others however, may want to use speed reading for reading 10 or more words per second with better than average comprehension and for them a course in speed reading may be the answer.

Fortunately, you have a great source of tattoo designs at your fingertips. That’s right - the Internet. There are literally tonnes of online tattoo galleries where you can view graphics of lower back tattoos, arm tattoos, etc. Clear out your diary and spend a few hours looking around. When you see a design you like, print it. Also, keep track of the tattoo artists behind the tattoos you see. You may be in luck - if they live and operate locally, you may be able to hire them to personally scratch your tattoos. Meanwhile, I also advise visiting a few highly regarded tattoo shops and looking through their scratch books. These are books of various tattoo designs. Read the rest of this entry »

Ohio State University

One evening he came home and announced that he had decided to go to college. He realized that the job he was presently doing would dead end if he did not have a degree. He was also motivated to get his degree because his new girl friend was getting hers. He decided he wanted to be close to her so he wanted to enroll at Ohio State University. We live in Minnesota. I knew that this was not the furthest distance that he could have picked, but I did not like the idea of my baby being that far from home. Ohio State University is a fine school with a great reputation, but they did not have a reciprocal agreement with Minnesota, so he would have to pay out of state tuition costs.
